Hi everyone rolleyes.gif

Can someone give me some good info on witch kinds of food is good for SBD?

I really thought that one of my fish died last night. He was floating belly up, but when I tapped on the glass he turned around and swam away happy.gif, and I could sleep tightly... But when I checked this morning, he was gone, I lokked but there was no fish too see anywhere, but then I found him... He was stuck behind the airpump. I have a shark 400. I checked injury, but he was just fine happy.gif. So I have tried to not to feed him today. This is because I see that when I dont feed him he does not start to float, so here is where You experts get in. What else can I feed my fish that is full of nuetrens = normal food. I think that my fish might be allergic to the grain in the pellets that I give them.

Hello Nessie

Feeding peas a couple times a week helps them and also i was told that sinking pellets were the best for goldfish.I used to feed flakes and it made my tank water dirty and also they have to go up and gulp air at the same time to eat the flakes,so i switched to sinking pellets and i am quite more satisfied cause they can eat at the bottom of the tank instead of gulping air up in there bellies.

Hi Nessi and Welcome!

I agree with Orandabeauty, peas a couple of times a week will help with constipation and SBD (I have a moor that used to get it something terrible). Also sinking pellets are better for them then the flakes. Be sure to soak them a minute before you feed them.
*Edit : You might want to not feed them for about 3 days, then feed peas for the next few days. That will help with the SBD too.

I hand feed my fish Peas and Spinach every couple of days too, they like bloodworms, earthworms (cleaned and not to big) Dandilion leaves and all sorts of other foods. Heck theres even Oranges, broccoli, frozen krill, tubifix worms, its crazy the food you can feed your little fishies.

I hope that helps, oddly enough I was feeding my fish when I read this and they are fighting each other to get to the top for the next pea laugh.gif

When you feed dandelion leaves, does anything need to be done to them beyond washing?

Good quality spirulina algae flakes given as a regular supplement to their staple pellets can help to keep things moving and prevent constipation/swimbladder problems smile.gif

If you continue to have problems with SBD/constipation [well, the fish, that is], a lot of people make their own food. There's a page somewhere on here with some receipes -- I got the gel food receipe I use from here, and it's pretty simple [tuna, peas, plain geletain, and some other veggies] -- it's looks like pea-colored jello, but my fish like it, so it's all good.
