hi, i just bought a organic zucchini to feed my goldfish but i am not sure how to feed them.
I tried a long time ago to feed the zucchini by clipping a piece to the veggie clip but Casper ended up taking the whole piece off the clip and putting the whole thing into his mouth. He ended up choking but was able to get it out after some time. I know to peel it and remove the seeds but how do i clip it onto the veggie clip without him yanking it off? He is a very determined and strong fish. smile.gif

thanks

Hi Karla, I seem to remember reading similar posts before. You could typing the keyword into the search bar at the bottom of the food forum page and I'm sure you'll get some responses. Otherwise, I'm sure somebody else will be long soon to help you smile.gif

thank you! i did just like you said but i only got 2 posts, mine and another that was not very helpful. smile.gif

Casper is a very strong fish and although i can cut the zucchini into big chunks, as they munch on it it will get smaller and i fear it will get small enough to fit into Casper's mouth and he will choke again. I would rather clip it on the veggie clip so that it is able to stay and i may be able to remove the peice as it gets smaller. I just want them to munch on something while they wait for their next meal. Also to keep them entertained biggrin.gif .

Any suggestions will be appreciated smile.gif .

The petsmart where I bought one of my orandas feeds it to them. They slice it into a very thin circle an put it on the veggie clip.

good luck. you may have to nuke it for a few seconds in the micorwave to soften it. I am not sure about that part

Yep, gotta soften it up first by nuking in the microwave or boiled water. Not too soft though, zucchini can get reaaal messy biggrin.gif

Try cucmber instead and cut it so it is n a circle . do not peel it .the green rind keeps it afloat , it will float on top let the fish play with it , they will come up under neath it dont need a clip . it wil also dive to the botttom and then float back up they will eat everything but the rind . they will nip & suck off any bits they can get in their mouths much safer to let them decide what size , so dont cut it up , if you have a large cucumber cut it in circles called medallions & freeze them by layingthem flat in a plastic bag . not on top of each other , then take one aout at a time defrost i warm water , the frezing thaw action changed the cucmber meat to sft n eatable for fishiez .ORNAGE SLICES ARE SERVED UP THE SAME WAY .cut in circles leave the orange peeling on to keep it floating if you have moethan one fish it looks like they are playing hockey around the fish tank
have fun ,

thank you all for your advice, just one last question, I put zucchini in my tank yesterday, clipped 1 piece on to a veggie clip, Butterball nibbled but i do not think she knows that it is food, but Casper, he went crazy, started nibbling it and trying to yank the piece from the veggie clip laugh.gif . Anyway when it got close to bedtime there still was zucchini left on the clip, can i leave the zucchini in the tank for them to finish or is it a good idea to take it out? I took it out for fear of polluting the tank.

Oh I have cucumber but it is not organic, but tomorrow i'll be giving them a piece of orange since it's their tank cleaning day biggrin.gif
I was told only to feed them organic.

I think my fish enjoy them most when I cook them til soft. That way they sink and I really don't even need the Veggie clip. laugh.gif Letting them float on top isn't always a great idea because certain fish can get floaty from sucking up too much air while trying to eat it. I allow it to be in the tank for a few hours. There may have been a time or two when it made it overnight, but as a rule,I generally don't allow it-especially in the summer as it can spoil and alter your params along with it too.
I think your best bet is a few hours and then toss it.Better safe than sorry. wink.gif
