Are there any "people-foods" that I could mush up and feed to my new Red Cap to help it's wen grow? I was told that Omega One and Hikari Lionhead are good, but none of my local pet stores carry it and I'm not allowed to order things off of the internet (even if I give my mom the $$ for it)
Are there any foods that contain the right stuff for healthy wen growth?

i think protein is the most important thing. I cant think of anything besides bloodworm, and other 'meaty' live/frozen foods, that might help. I am wondering the same as u actaully since buying a baby oranda.

fingers crossed for a better reply soon!! smile.gif

I meant anything I would eat, like eggs or something.

Cocktail shrimp are one thing, Anic - I usually buy the little salad shrimp, or bascially any shrimp that are on sale. Winn-Dixie sometimes has buy one/get one free. Most of them are pre-cooked, and all I do is cut them up into tiny pieces, and either feed my fish that once or twice a week, or work it into any gel food I make at the moment. Crabmeat is also a nice option for protein.

protein rich foods are good for make wen grow. your pet store should have frozen brine shrimp, frozen blood worms. When I was trying to get the wen to grow on my orandas I fed a lot of frozen brine shrimp for a short while and it worked

there are only 2 pellet food is good for the wen growth

1-Hikari Oranda Gold
2-Hikari Lionhead

But, the best food I would highly suggest Bloomworms for full wen growth result.
Hikari also made freeze dried BloodWorms, the crude protein is 65%... which is alot more than others pellet products...

i'm sorry, should have read your post more carefully!! i'm not sure bout 'human' foods that will help wen growth, most human foods that fish can have are veg, which dont have much protein. i think ur best bet is shrimp, as suggested by ranchugirl.
or buying some frozen or freeze dried bloodworm or brine shrimp specifically for ur fish, they r not very expensive

This is an old thread but I thought I'll add my comments about feeding eggs.
I tried feeding big fish with egg yolk and they went crazy...they loved it....swallowed every piece like that was the last piece of food they were getting...I was so...happy wondering why I didn't feed them egg yolks before.

BUT...after about 15 mnts they pooped white colour looong poop all over the tank and messed it up like mad.
Within minutes the tank looked like a garbage can filled with water (now you can imagine right...)
I had to let them poop all the yolk poop and transfer them to the hospital tank and do a full clean up then and there, as I couldn't risk waiting anymore and the water was becoming toxic I think...

So, that was the first and the last time I fed eggs to my fish... exactly.gif
