...goodness i just found out my little cousins fed my GF with cheese!! its those slices of cheese in packets of 12...the brand is chesdale...it seems the gf loves them and ate them up so fast...i used to feed it to my gf last time way before i even know what a goldfish really is...

just wondering if my gf would be OK?

well i really don't know, but just watch you goldfish carefully for any weird behavior. I also caught my little cousins trying to feed my goldfish gram crackers but i got the gram crackers before they were eaten and i kinda yelled at my little cousins

Cheeze! Ekke!

I have never fed a Goldfish Cheese but I have fed my dog cheese. I know that it will constipate a 35lb dog so I would watch them and probably not feed them for about 3 days then feed nothing but frozen or fresh peas for the next few days.

haha...my dog havent eaten dog food for about 10 years now! we feed him cheese and milk icecream cookies, anything we eat he eats! he doesnt have that stinky dogfood smell and his fur is shinny as ever. people use to come ask us what brand of dog food we feed our dog because they could never get their fur to shine like ours!

blink.gif uuuhh, I'm supprised that dog is still alive.

I think I fed my goldies cheese once (weey before kokos), I dont recall anything bad happening, so they should be ok.. just keep a close eye on them and their poop.

It is protein - hopefully good protein (cheesefood ?) Othere than sticking to the roof of the fish's mouth, or potentially making them slightly constipated, perhaps, I do not think there should be any problems. Fish eat ALL kinds of things that fall into pond - from creatures to sandwiches, etc. without problems....

I would, however, see if you can prevent anymore cheese feeding! rofl3.gif

I've heard it constipates them and could kill them... I've been told under no circumstance not to give fish cheese... they love it, but, I myself probably wouldn't just to be on the safe side... of course, now we're not supposed to give dogs chocolate, and I remember giving our dog chocolate all the time when we were little before they started saying that... I would guess that just a little very ocassionally might be okay. heck if you wanna give 'em a treat, give 'em gel food. I started making that for my goldies and it's like the best candy in the world to 'em! man they love it!

It probably depends on the hardiness of the breed - both fish and dog. exactly.gif

Seems like the carefully bred fancies have more delicate digestion. Ingest air when the food floats, get constipation and blockages and stuff. I've never had a problem with my comets, and they try to eat anything that falls in their barrel. Though they do spit out unsavory morsels. One was even making kissy noises the other day, pulling air in his mouth at a crease in the pond liner at the surface. And he wasn't full of air later. Strange fish! dry.gif

Then I've known little Pomeranian and Shitzu that get diarrhea, constipation, or impacted anal glands if they eat anything slightly unusual. Then there's the Tijuana ranch dogs my friend had that would eat ANYTHING that fell on the ground and it wouldn't phase them a bit. One ate a cassette tape. When it came out the other end he had beads on a string. Scared him though - it was stop, grunt, run away, stop, grunt, run away. And that strange thing wouldn't stop chasing him - until he got to the end of the tangled mess. Now THAT was funny - and I don't think he was harmed aside from the psychological trauma. rofl3.gif

Still, I don't think I would put cheese in with my fish for fear of the strange bacteria it may have.

surely the fat content is the biggest worry with cheese and other dairy products being fed to animals, especially fish. i'm pretty sure i heard fat is bad for them, might make them constipated anr cause swimbladder/floaty troubles.
just a thought.
glad they seem to be doing ok smile.gif
peas are a good idea to 'flush out' their systems of you are worred about the cheese still

I wouldn't feed cheese to my goldies apart from that my loach would want some and he's hyper enough as it is.
As for feeding dogs cheese and dairy products as a dog trainer and instructor I do not recommend the feeding of these types of products to dogs on a regular basis as it has been proven that cheese and dairy products cause cancer in dogs.As a little treat or training use is fine.Personally I avoid dairy products with my dogs.
