Hello all! My baby oranda (Larry) came with tail rot and ick. He has been living in a 10 gallon tank for the last two months. First I did Fungus Cure tabs, Ick guard, and raised temperature which got rid of the ick. then for the tail rot we did maracyn - 2 for 10 days. and Yeah! It seemed to be gone. Yeah!
Well the tank has been set up for 2 months now. I do water changes weekly - if not bi-weekly. 20-30% water at a time. I learned the hard way about over feeding. things get murky. Ammonia is ), Nitrite virtually nil, nitrate low. Ph is slightly alkaline out of the tap and hard. I usually replaced half the replaceent water with distilled.
The filter is a whisper. Small heating pad because the tank is in the stream of the airconditioner and stays at 71F. I changed the carbon filter a week and a half ago. there are living plants for Larry to munch on. He is an inch in body length excluding head and tail.
No new fish or plants. but it is the other side of his tail fin that is affected now. He does share with a fantail who i thought started ick over again but the white bumps haven't fallen off and they seem to be inflamming Fussy's tail fin. They came together from a leading retailer. I should've known better. Perhaps, I have thought, that Fussy got a bacterial infection which Larry has picked up or they are trading it.
Larry is growing and his tail was filling out beautifully before this relapse. His behavoir is more self assured becasue Fussy used to boss "him" around the tank. Fussy is probably the only ADHD goldfish. :} I'm thinking Fussy is a boy and Larry is a girl becasue very recently their interactions have displayed pseudo-sexual play. I think from what I have read that they are much too young to date.
they are on my desk at work and I watch them closely (some people in my office say that I 1) worry too much and 2) are getting obsessive.) I am starting to cycle the 55 gallon tank at home for them.
Enough about my fish. Thanks for listening at any rate.
