Hi there,

I'm new to this forum, for reasons beyond understanding I never thought about searching out fish hobbyist forums on the web before. This, despite the fact that I visit automotive related ones constantly. Oh well. I'm attaching some photos from a business trip overseas I had about a month ago.

These are from the Koi pond (closer to a lake) at the New Otani Hotel in Tokyo, Japan. A great hotel if you're ever in Tokyo for business or vacation.

In any case, the Koi are large and varied. Some of the largest ones were over 20lbs I'm sure as they stretched more than 24 inches. All were use to being hand fed because if you hover your hand over them, they surface with mouths stretched! Some fish were excellent examples, however a few did exhibit signs of injury (as you would find in such a large group) such as scars, missing eye or some scale/fin damage.

Thanks,
Peter

I wish I had taken photos which would show scale. These fish were all enormous. Having seen Koi state side, I didn't know they could grow to this size. What Petco stores call "Big Bubba" and sell for $69.99 would be about half the size of these things.

It was actually a bit nerve wracking to see them thrash about in front of you thinking food was on the way. I'll see if I can dig up other photos of the Koi pond. By the way, there are two restaurants smack in the middle of the garden. I decided to have steak that night to avoid the irony of eating sushi while surrounded by a huge Koi pond. smile.gif

Thanks,
Peter

Few more photos. Not so much a Koi pond as it is a "lake". I was told by the hotel staff that some of the Koi are over 20 years old. I don't doubt it based on how large they are.

The white flecks are from Cherry blossoms. It happened to be Cherry blossom season.
