I got two Platies yesterday, one looks a bit chunky and I was wondering if she? might be pregnant.

I've never owned a fish that had babies so I'm excited to know.

Hi there. If a female then yes there seems to be a fatter belly so does look like young. If the anal fin is long and pointed than its a male but round and fan shaped its a female.

I had two pregnant platies but the babies all died, I had meds in the tank because mommy to be had Columnaris. It was probably better off, but Im hopeing that Sgt. Pepper gets his groove on sometime soon!

if the female is old enough(and sometimes evenif she isnt) they are almost always pregnant(even without a male:they can store sperm) just make sure that if you want to keep the babies you need to put it in a different tank or the other fish will eat the babies.i have three baby platties and they are so cut (the female only had three) and they are doing pretty good you just have to make sure you crush some flake food up to feed them because they are very tiny. and congrats on having babies i hope everything goes well.
