Depends on what fish they are for.
With goldfish though, be sure to soak them I'd say.
Maybe break them up, but I don't know how large they are, or how large your fish are or what mess it could cause in your tank.
Other than that, I dunno.

I should have been more clear, sorry. They are for my algae eater and it is still very small. Should i just soak it and brake it up over the tank? Will my little algae eater know to eat it? I have 2 fancy goldfish in the tank to,so i know they will eat it. I'm just wondering if the poor little algae eater will get it's share. Thanks

I would crush it so algae will grow all over the tank so the algae eater wont have to search for food it will be every where on everything. I too have an algae eater and he/she is very cute and almost looks like a little shark

. I got him because i got tiered of scrubbing algae off the tank and everything else, so now he does my job for me

I drop mine in whole and slowly it will soften enough so youre pleco can eat it. Finding it shouldnt be a problem. Sometimes if I have goldies in the same tank, I either put one in on one side and while the goldies are eating one. I drop one in on the other side for the pleco. You could break one in half and do the same thing.

There is no chance in hell a sucker fish would get any algae wafers in my tank! My goldfish go crazy over those things!

LOL! They have to be very QUICK! One of mine fights for his. He just stays over it even though the fish are picking at it too.

I'm not sure the waffers or disks would grow actual algae..
Much less if that is desired.
My fish eats from my fingers, so when I get a larger tank and a rubber nose pleco (As I'd promised my friend) I would likely drop the disk in while my goldfish was distracted.
Just a thought though.

i would feed them dry and just drop them in one spot where it is clear, and train your fish to eat there, and they will will search and find there food, and always eat it all up, i wouldnt scatter them around the tank, as you get to much wastage this way, as they dont find them all the time, and after a day the food starts to go mouldy. sp.

My biggest fish will eat about 3 full algae wafers in 1 go, the rest will fight over 1 for about 10mins.

I only use algae wafers when there is little or no algae in the tank.My goldies too like the wafers but don't really get to eat any.
One drawback I have found is if the wafer isn't removed after around half an hour or you leave it in it quickly pollutes the tank.

Many bottom dweller's starve when they're kept in Goldfish tanks because Goldfish are awful with sharing.
Does this Algae Eater have a hidey hole that he hangs out in,or some plant coverage where he is hidden? If so,I would place the disc in there while you're feeding the Goldfish.Alot of people also feed their bottom dweller's at night ,to give them an extra chance to eat,but my Goldies don't miss a trick-you can often hear them cussing as they're running into each other looking for the food.
As for not using algae wafers unless there is little or no algae in the tank, you have to realize that these fish require other foods besides algae on glass. You can do both, the Algae Eater will still clean your tank.
