I have seen them but I wouldn't buy them as supa brand foods tend to create a lot of waste.I stick to the king british brands of food or aquarian brand.

mine was different it created less waste than the usual flakes
must just be my greedy fish and the powerful filter
actauly the filter pads were full of more waste then usual

That might be either the ant's exoskeleton provides good fiber, or the goldfish can't digest the ants at all. at any rate ants are high in protein and if large amounts of protein is floating freely in the water that can cause bad water conditions.

I remember there was a time quite a few years back now where people were encouraged to feed ant eggs as a staple diet

Thankfully we know a little bit more about the nutrional requirements of goldfish now, I agree as an occasional treat they are probably as beneficial as other "live" foods freeze dried providing they are of a good quality

actually as a good form of testing leave the waste out into the sun, if the water is green after a few days that means the protein was absorbed, brownish water may mean that the food is in the midst of decomposing or in other words the proteins were not fully absorbed.
That's what I came to understand with my experience so far, we may need more confirmation to see if this technique proves true for every type of food.

i bought some as a treat for my fish. they don't like them at all, spat them straight back out. there is lots of other stuff in there as well as the ant eggs. little pieces of wood and what looks like small stones. ended up having to get them back out of the tank with my net. won't be using them again.

I got some ant eggs from a nest in the garden and my tropicals went mad for them.

fresh eggs would definately be better plus they wouldn't have all that other rubish in that the bought ones have.
