I have about 0 kh in my tap water, which causes my ph to drop in my tanks. By using crushed coral I am able to manage it fairly well but have to monitor it closely and change the coral often.
My tap water ph is 7.0, which is fine for my goldies, and my ultimate goal is to KEEP the ph the same as my tap water so water changes are really easy.
So what I am wondering is...if I used a product like API's Proper Ph 7.0, would that keep my ph at 7 (which it already is) but then add the necessary buffers that I need to keep it there? I do not like using chemicals in my tank and wish that this product did not contain aloe, but I am thinking aloe and electrolytes are probably safer than a ph crash in a healthy tank. I do not want to use baking soda or some of the other buffer products because while they will raise my kh they will also make my ph higher, which I don't want-but a product that will keep my ph where it already is AND add buffer sounds perfect. I also don;t want my fish going through ph changes, so again, having a product that keeps it at 7 would be awesome.
So is the answer to my kh problem or not a good idea? Is ther another product out there like this that guarantees a 7.0 ph and adds buffer but without all the other stuff?
Thanks for any advice! Here is the Aqua Pharm tech sheet on Proper Ph 7.0 I also picked up some packets that were on clearance in case I do end up wanting to try it. I think I will write API and see what they say as well.
