I had my 10 G QT tank on the table still full of water from yesterday. There were no fish in it. I was making dinner and heard a loud noise, so I came into the living room and saw a huge crack up the side of it and water dripping to the floor! I hadnt touched the tank in hours. Any suggestions as to why this happened? I cant think of anything and I dont want it to happen again, especially if I have a fish in it.

What was it sat on.. like with polystyerene under?
It could have been twisted or unlevel, that can make a tank crack.

Or sudden temperature change?

Or a fissure that you hadn't noticed reached it's breaking threshold..lucky no fish were in smile.gif

ohmy.gif Sorry to hear that the tank cracked. Two reasons that I know of is a,,a hairline crack/fracture that was unnoticed by you,or b) anytime a tank is not sitting perfectly level, there's a chance it can crack.I found that out a long time ago. rolleyes.gif

The exact same thing happened to me.Turned out there had been a small crack in the base of the tank and eventually it just cracked totally.

Any time you move a tank, it needs to be moved EMPTY. No gravel, no decorations, no water. If the tank twists at all during moving, even if you set it on a perfectly level surface later, the shear that was begun during the move can translate into a crack, which will eventually give way to a leak or a break.....

I am so sorry about your tank. sad.gif

At least it was not a 120 gallon tank on the second floor over someone's priceless art collection!

lol daryl! Yeah it was just a cheap 10 gallon. No worries. Well it may have been that there was a crack there that I didnt see before. Also, it wasnt completely level. I had it on the kitchen table and the water line was a slight bit off. Making me worry now cos my tanks on the wall are a little off too. *GULP*
