Not sure if there is something wrong with my Betta as he had crusty marks on his face when I got him just not as bad.He has ragged fins I was given him free of charge by the fish store.

Its a 10 gallon tank
Filter is a Fluval 2plus
Tank Temp is between 82 and 84 F
Parameters just taken after 50% water change.

NO3 10
NO2 0
GH 3
KH 3
pH 3

Meds added to tank after the above water change

Pimafix
Aquarium Salt

Water Conditioners

Safe Guard
Safe Water

Other Tank Occupants

6 Neons 2 have no died no obvious signs of illness
1 Chinese Algae Eater who has defended himself against my Betta but not attacked it.

Anyone have any idea what is going on.

Been back to store where I got my beloved Ragman.I showed them my params, explained his symptoms and fact that he had signs of this prob when I got him.Plus meds and everything I put in.To my horror they told me to bring him back as even tho I had done what I have apparently its not going to save him. They are going to exchange him but I feel bad knowing they are probably going to kill him. They have told me to put him in QT away from my neons and algae eater.

Heres an attached pic you can just see crusty bits just in front of his gills.Sorry about pic but it was taken before he was released to join other fish.

Eeek no, don't bring him back! I think most fish would be better in your care than the LFS's.

Its hard to tell from the pics, but he looks healthy to me. I know the white under his face is normal, my betta has that and I think it is very cute. I think you are more worried about the greenish scales on his gills though? I think it looks like a normal color deviance that is often common on the gills. As long is its not fuzzy, open sored, or looks like a parasite (fish lice come to mind) I'm sure he is perfectly fine. How's he acting? Is he breathing normally?

EDIT: The aquarium salt is probably what killed the neons. They are very sensitive to salt and meds. If after reading this you still think he is sick, move him to a different aquarium to treat him. If not, run carbon in the filter to remove meds and several large water changes to remove the salt.

He seems quite happy wandering about his tank. He's not too happy when he can't go through the log because my algae eater chases him out.The neons were moved yesterday to my 50g.He seems to be breathing normally he not hanging around the surface or sitting on the bottom.I've never up to now had an attack of fish lice in the 4 years iv'e been keeping fish.It always seems be Ick I end up with.
Devs also told me he doesn't look sick.I had no intentions of taking him back I couldn't do it especially knowing they would kill him.I put pimafix in the tank less than required dose.I just worry too much I guess.
His scales just look an odd colour compared with the rest of him.I don't see any open sores or signs of fungus.I must be being an over protective owner.
Heres another pic maybe give you a better look at it.

Yah I think those are just greenish metalic scales. He's a beautiful fish! I'm glad you are keeping him.

Couldn't part with my Ragman too attached to him.I'd have felt like I let him down.Especially way he looks out of the tank at me.Planning on getting a female companion for him as I will soon have a spare tank.
Theres going to be no room in this house ammount of tanks in it.theres currently 5.
