The liner is 10x12 and has about 1ft 6in overhang. The wood was cut wrong so either the width or length of the pond is longer.

It should be about 360 gallons when totally full.

There are 28 koi inside.

There were about 100 goldfish inside while i used it to test water. I couldnt get about 5 out as its too hard to net them out with a small fish net.
There are 33 fish inside which i will try to get more out tommorow.

Its night right now but ill update the thread first thing next morning adding all the pictures.

Sizes and types of koi:

(2)8" Koi (Both are Kohakus)(Short Fin)
(2)3-4" Koi (Short Fin)
(24)4-5" Koi (Longfin, Butterfly)(Was 25 when i ordered online but one was sick so i seperated it and it died a while later.

Wow… thats an awful lot of koi in such a small pond. I am assuming this is only meant to be temporary?
Debi0825
You are way overstocked. You should allow at least 100 gallons per Koi. You're asking for trouble.
vmlola
sad.gif I'm happy that you are building a pond but may I ask why you have so many fish? Others here have much bigger ponds and do not have nearly as many fish as you have. You are going to loose many of your fish because you are so very overstocked.

If you do not see a bigger pond in your very near future, I would think the best thing to do for your fish would be to give some back to where you bought them or to someone with a large pond.

Koi get so large and need lots of room to swim. I hope you can do something before your fish start to die from lack of space from being overstocked resulting in poor water conditions.
Dynamerek
Its because i bought a mix on ebay. The 25 butterfly were $133 after shipping. Pretty good deal to me as they look very nice.

d_golem
What happened to the 100 goldfish??

I really think u should try and look for new homes for the koi as you won't have enough space to keep all those fish
Dynamerek
Sorry i thought i could edit the first post anyways heres the pictures i just took. Still sort of bright so there are reflections and isnt that clear.

I will continue to add more pictures. I am going to be making a bigger pond once i get the back of the pond fixed as there are too many weeds.
Debi0825
You have way too many fish for that size of a pond. You'd better have a really good filter because they are way over crowded.I have a pond over 1,000 gallons and only have 6 Koi. I have several smaller goldfish but only 6 Koi (and I'm giving one away).
Scott
The pond I built is 4,000 gallons with 17 large koi and 4 small. It's way over stocked and very difficult to keep the perams good because of it. And I have a MONSTER filtration system. Your putting those fish in danger.

Dynamerek
Yeah i know. I drained the pond and refilled it. Getting a new filter today

Draining and refilling it have nothing to do with it. You still have way too many fish. You wouldn't believe how many filters I have on my pond with the 6 Koi. I have to clean my pond once a day. If I don't I get all sorts of sludge and the parameters get out of wack. You need to get rid of some of those fish.
Dynamerek
I got a new filter and my dad made a overflow for it so the top of the pond will not have as much debris. I just start selling some of them on ebay i guess
d_golem
Pls let us know on how r u going with the selling of ur fish wink.gif
Dynamerek
Im selling some on craigslist and i got a few emails
d_golem
I read somewhere that u only got 7 left now cos the others died, huh?
Dynamerek
Who said that?

Oops i just saw it. I said i have 7 baby koi. In my tank. I still have all my large koi in my pond. 7 koi as i said in 2 inches long.
Dynamerek
I bought http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1
and i have 7 left of these.

In my pond i bought
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1
and i still have them plus 4 other koi.
d_golem
Where the kois come from doesn't mean anything.

I hope u learned from ur mistakes about the baby kois, ur larger kois are not in a much better condition that those babies. I know they're yours but each one of them deserve to live a better life.

Pls don't buy that many fish again if u don't have the capacity to raise them properly.
Dynamerek
Baby koi die of stress easily and most of them couldnt make the shipment

Im informing you that the 7 koi left arent the same. Im not telling you where i got them.
d_golem
Again, where u got those fish is of no importance.

I mean the 28 larger kois in ur pond, not the 7 babies left in the tank. Btw how big is the tank where the 7 baby kois are in?

I think it's gallons, but still....
Debi0825
I realize you are only 12 but this is why children shouldn't be solely responsible for pets. You are way-ay-ay-ay overstocked. I feel very sorry for your fish.
Dynamerek
I have 12 fish now
d_golem
so 7 in the tank and 5 in the pond?
Dynamerek
12 in pond
d_golem
So u sold the other 16 already?
Dynamerek
Well i gave some to neighbors
d_golem
Do u know where your neighbours' gonna keep the fish in?
Stacyy
omg. this thread is so scary. i mean it seems as though ure just throwing away the fish. do u care at all about the lives of each and every one of those fish, or just how they look in the pond?

Just for your information. If these fish died because of the shipment then the person you bought them from isn't a reputable koi dealer. When you buy fish and they are shipped to you then you should expect 100% servival rate. If that is not what you've got then the person you bought them from should guarantee money back or replacement fish. This is not only information for you but for anyone else reading this thread. Never buy fish from an un-reputable dealer, ask around first ESPECIALLY when buying fish from Ebay. There are some good dealers on ebay, infact one of the best, Bonnie Hale, sales there and I guarantee you if you bought your fish from her they'd all be healthy no matter what age.

NOW with that said. I think that we've beat up on Dynamerek enough. He is only 12 years old and is still learning. Certainly this isn't really the way to learn, having fish die because of neglect. The problem is this, none of us automatically just know how to do things right. His parents are really the ones that should have took this project in and done a lot of research before allowing the pond and then the buying of the fish. I think that we should be happy that Dynamerek chose Kokos so that we could help mentor him on how to be a good pond keeper. After this experience that he's had I would guess he's on his way to being a good pond keeper. He's certainly learned and does have a lot more to learn.

Dynamerek, I hope that the homes you've found for these fish are good ones? I'm sure you've checked them out. I know that I speak for everyone here when I say our biggest concern is that you understand how to take care of these fish and that they get the care that they deserve. I believe you now realize how big a responsiblity you've taken on here since you have several little lives whom directly depend on you. It really is a good feeling inside knowing that you care for these beautiful creatures and they are surviving and happy.

If you have any question, any problems, etc...... Please don't hesitate to post them. We would be happy to help you work out what ever troubles your having.

I do have a question for you. Do you check your water for nitrites, nitrates, ammonia, and pH? If not You should get a pond test kit and check them once a week. This will help you keep the fish invironement healthy and that is a big part of the battle on keeping the fish healthy. Since you may still be over populated you may also want to up your water to .3% salt. Fish get sick just from overpopulation because it causes stress. Salt helps relieve the stress. It also helps protect the gills from getting burned from ammonia which is a problem with over populations.

Good luck with your pond. I hope that you stick with this hobby as it is very rewarding and please ask questions when they come up.

Thank you for posting that Scott, well said and very true that we should help everyone who comes here. I hope this thread will calm down a little now. smile.gif

The baby koi are from a farm and were just born. The koi i gave away are in like 1000-1200 gallon pond.

These are unculled fish so they put alot of koi at the same time which may not produce enough oxygen inside the bag.

Bonnie doesnt sell 25, 50, 75, 100 koi in a bag or anything.

I have a test kit and i test it 1-2 times a week. Theres media and everything inside filter.
jen626
Are you saying that you want 25, 50 koi in a bag?
Dynamerek
No im saying thats how many koi that are shipped at once in a bag for approximately 24 hours

Okay, so this place you bought these koi from put too many fish in a bag that most likely did not allow enough oxygen for this many fish. I think maybe you should leave feedback on this sellers ebay account so others will know this. I understand that it is difficult to give negative feedback because one wants to be totally fair. You need to realize that these fish should be treated fair as well. So do the future buyers.

Here's an example. About three years ago I bought fish from a seller that sales fish on ebay. I didn't buy them from her off ebay but from her web site. I bought 5 fish, 3 died. The first died withen 5 or 6 hours after I recieved the fish. The other's died withen a few days. She never refunded money but admitted that she had just recieved these fish in a shipment. She didn't even quarantee these fish before she sold them! I outed her on koiphen, well honestly it was another poster that outed her for me but I stepped in to set the story straight. The lady I bought the fish from stated it was unfair of me to make statements that I'd made and wanted to give her side of the story. Everyone wanted to hear what she had to say. She never ONCE made an appearance to defend herself. WHY? Because she knew what she did was wrong and knew that by letting the problem die her reputation might build up after what she'd done was forgotten. If she fueled the the flames by trying to defend her actions she may have ruined her buseness for longer than it was at that time. I was angry with her because first she sent me fish that she had just recieved, shipping fish puts them under a lot of stress they need time to recover. A few days isn't time enough for a fish to recover from such stress they need at least a month most likely more (any reputable dealer puts fish in QT anyhow). Second these fish died from her negligence, she knew it and stated she would give me my money back for the three I lost, I never recieved my money back. Third she was angry with me for telling people what had happened then backed off and wouldn't even give her side of why she did what she did. Her name is Paula by the way and she lives in Oregon. I almost forgot the stress it caused me. I was extremely upset that these fish died. I am one of those odd people that treasure all life and this honestly was a bad experience for me and one that easily could have been avoided.

Thats good that you test your water. Do you use salt to help with the stress? You may not be over populated now since you've gotten rid of many of the fish. You really should give feedback for that dealer, it sounds to me like they are putting too many fish in a bag.

Yeah i bought the koi unculled so they sell tons at a time. He didnt import them. He got it from his large koi.

Anyways i sold the rest of my fish cause i didnt want to overstock it to much.
I bought a 8-9" sanke today though. I have 3 larger koi and 2 smaller koi which i will have to leave inside
Blondhairboi
Now your at a somewhat reasonable amount for your pond.... bingo.gif ....I would love to some some pictures of that new large koi you just bought though.
