I need some help. My cat (who has never touched another one of my many fish) knocked my beta on the floor. I got him back in water really quickly but am concerned he may have some injuries from the rocks and such in his tank. It looks like he may have a scratch on the side of his head and his whole head is redder than the rest of his body (hes pink). What should I do for him? I put water conditioner in the tank when I change his water which is supposed to help prevent scrapes and cuts, but I assume that means when hes in his tank, not thrown to the ground. What should I look for to see if hes suffering and is there anything I can do for him?

sad.gif Poor Guy,the best thing that you can do for him right now,is keep his water absolutely pristene as to keep any secondary infections from occuring. What size container/tank/bowl is he in?Do you have any sort of heater for him? I think for now, clean water, and a calming down period is good.Keep an eye out though & look for shredded or frayed fins starting, not eating, etc If you grabbed him up immediately after the accident, chances are that he's just a little stunned and will be okay. If he was out of the water for a period of time you may see alot of external skin problems such as peeling and the fraying of fins. Depending on his behavior, you may need eventually to dose with Antibiotics. Some people do use Aquarium salt 1/2 tsp per gallon,I personally have only used salt myself once for I do not feel comfortable using it with them.If you decide to,you'll want to dissolve it in a bit of his tank water before adding it in so it won't burn him. You'll also have to watch him for a while to make sure he reacts okay with the salt in there with him. Good luck-hope he's okay.Keep us posted. smile.gif

He seems to be doing well now. He is swimming around and eating normally and the red on his head has dimmed to the pink it was before his accident. Thanks for your help! happy.gif
