I posted on the forum before about breeding my big male, but have since decided against it. After much research and looking I realized he is not true blue, but steel, so I couldn't get the colors I wanted. I also see he has some abnormal finnage and although I love him and I think he's a great fish - he shouldn't be bred.
However, after deciding this I went on a betta shopping spree. I bought an imported green male crowntail from an exceptional fish store. On the way home we, high on new fishiness, went to Petsmart where I was digging around and found - at the very back - a very pretty turquise purple with definately purple points, he's so cool
We also bought three females that night who died a few weeks later of some unknown cause. Well, we bought them knowing other fish in the tank had ick, but I decided to buy them and treat them myself because they were such nice girls. So it could have been that or?? I don't know. We had them in a big tank with a heater and the water tested fine so who knows? The first bettas I've ever had die on me :/
Anyway, last night I found myself a new girl:) She's a blue combtail:)
I got her all set up in her new home and decided to move my crowntail male next door.
All sorts of love at first sight. My crowntail is definately my least active fish and he's also rather sullen most of the time. I gave him a plant and he wouldn't go near it... that sort of thing. So I was extremely pleased that within 5 minutes of seeing her through the glass he was displaying his finnage (though not flaring, which is odd because he flairs at ME if he feels in the mood!) and being very interested in her. She also likes him and was showing her finnage. It was very adorable.
I moved their tanks apart so they wouldn't wear themselves out but this morning when I got up I saw that my crowntail apparently, with this beautiful woman on his mind, was very busy last night. He has constructed a full bubble nest that would put any breeding pair to shame:)
This female is too young to breed, she's much smaller than him and doesn't look to have any eggs so possible breeding would be very, very far off. Plus I don't know if crowntails and combtails are really anything that would be desired in my area.
Ahh well, I'll let them be in love:)
