When I went over to my tank one of my fish's tail was gone. I found it lodged into on of my decor. So it must of got stuck and he must of ripped it off. Should I worry about anything.
JenW
Have you removed the offending ornament? Also are your parameters perfect? How much of the tail was ripped off?

Please post back soon smile.gif
robertcrowe
I took out the ornament. parameters are perfect. I took some pictures of him and the piece I found. He dosn't seem to be bleeding but when i took the tail out there was blood on it.

He seems to be fine he just seems to be struggling with swimming which is probably normal. He rests on the bottom alot but he dosn't seem any different

I think my fish have fin rot. There a spot on his upprt tail at the very top of it in the second picture. Now up to there has fell off not has big as the first one not the whole tail just a strip. One of my other fish seems to have a spot on his back tail too.
JenW
Can you check your water parameters? Fin rot will normally fix itself if your water is perfect. As an additive, you could include 1 teaspoon of salt per gallon - this is what I would do and it has the added affect of reducing the chance of any secondary bacterial infection.
robertcrowe
Do I just use table salt or Do I buy salt from the Pet Store.

I don't think my tank is cycled yet because It has only been running for about 2 weeks. The water was clear though but today it has gotten murky. The ph was off so I added some ph bullseye in the water.

Could you possibly answer all the questions up above so that we have all your information on hand, before we try and diagnose your problems.
Be very careful about altering your ph.Most times people have alot of problems when doing that. Post your info soon.
robertcrowe
I only have a ph test. I'll go an get the others tets.

Tank size- 29 gallons
How long has it been running- About 2-3 weeks
What is the name and size of the filter- Emperor 330
How often do you change the water and how much- 25 percent water change every week
How many fish in the tank and their size- 3 fish- Two about 3-4 inchs and one 2-3 inches.
What kind of water additives or conditioners- I ran out of Cycle and Waste control about 1 week ago.
Any medications added to the tank- Nope
Add any new fish to the tank? I added a Rubberlip pleco but it died in 3 days.
What do you feed your fish? Wardly Goldfish Floating Pellets. They have been in this for like 4 months.
Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt",
bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Frayed fins. Seems to be falling off bit by bit.
Any unusual behavior like staying
at the bottom, not eating, ect..- When I come in they are at the bottom just sitting there but then they come up and swim around. They still eat.
JenW
Robert, I think your biggest problem is water quality - especially as it's a fairly new tank. I think now is the most important time to have test kits, so you can monitor how deadly the levels of ammonia and nitrites.

For now, I would start doing daily waterchanges and try to get yourself another bottle of dechlorinator because unfortunately if you don't, they may not survive.

For salting, go with sea, rock or aquarium salt - 1 teaspoon per gallon but most importantly (and I know I'm harping on it) is waterchanges daily smile.gif

How is the fish and did you get the tests?
robertcrowe
The tank cleared up. Looks pretty clean right now. The fish is doing fine, his fin is growing back. They are acting normal now. Havn't gotten the tests yet but I will buy some.

One question should I buy anything to help heal the fins heal faster
JenW
Just time and excellent water quality. Then they will heal fastest smile.gif

PS. I will move this over to diagnosis/discussion as it sounds as though the emergency is over smile.gif
