Ok, I'm just itching to give it a go this summer!
I know I have a lot of reading to do, but I have few questions..
stocking, like.. what size tub will I need for two small fancies? Is it best to completely understock? is it unsafe to do just 10 gallons per fish?
Anyhow I will get the biggest tub I can find, I really want these guys to do some growing!

Can anyone suggest some good reading material, I've read through the one on rafflesgold thats posted here somewhere..
I know my basics, like how to start out, scraping all algae off the sides, aeration at night, dont let the water get too green or fish will get oxygen burn during the day and none at night. ermm.. something to do with pH.. water changes etc.

I wont be starting anything for a couple more weeks, I still have college til the 28th June and might still have to go for a week after that if i dont have all my work done then.

edit: I hope this is in the right place unsure.gif

Yay another greenwater convert! biggrin.gif

The RG article is a very good one. Have a read on it again and make sure u understand all.

10 gal per fish good. Understocking is all up to u.

If u use sunlight then no need to use artificial light.

Once the greenwater is established, the pH will rise up to about 8.2-8.4, so be sure that u acclimatise ur fish real slowly after water change.

cool, thanks Riz smile.gif

my pH is usually 7.8-8 so that shouldnt be too much of a problem.

I suggest you understock, a too of a concentration of green water can be lethal

ok Thanks smile.gif

I've just read through a few of the threads on green water of rafflesgold and it keeps mentioning if the water goes brown the fish aren't healthy, and showed a picture of green water with healthy fish and a tub with fish with flukes, and the flukes one was brownish.. what makes the water brown if the fish aren't healthy?
d_golem
I have tried asking that there but got no responses. I'm not sure about the validity of it also as I have experienced brownish water before in my QT tub, but after a water change the water becomes vivid green again.

hmm, I wouldnt of thought it would be true.. fish dont give off a 'sick' hormone or anything do they?
d_golem
Not sure about that, but what it means that it becomes even harder to spot a sick fish without handling them
x-Lucy-Fish-x
I'll make sure i check them in a viewing tank regularly, although reading more and more about greenwater the chances of them getting sick in there aren't high.. the stuff is amazing!
I just found this link (posted on your greenwater thread) and the development of those fish (especially the redcap) in just THREE WEEKS is.. wow laugh.gif http://geocities.com/greenngoldsg/greenwater-frame.html i'm getting excited!

Don't get ur hopes too high biggrin.gif . Although the stuff is great, the examples shown in that page are most likely to be on the extreme side, heavily "pumped-up". No doubt that u will see some improvement with ur fish, but most likely it won't be as miraculous as the ones in that page.

How much r u feeding ur fish now? I would advice to slightly up the feeding portion. Mine is twice a day and as much as they can eat in 10-15 minutes.

If you use Photoshop a lot, you will notice that some (maybe a good deal) of the improvement comes from using "Auto Level" on the digital image.

They are overstocked at the moment (2 in 15 gal) so its either a moderate portion (flake/pellet/peas/bloodworm) once a day or two smaller portions a day.
They will be in the tub (if all is successful) for 2-3 months so hopefully i will get some good growth and colour, I'm very interested to see what happens so Emsley, he was a Panda Oranda but now hes lemon and orange head, his colour swings about quite easily. I'd like him to lose his orange colour and just be a yellow fish..but that probably wont happen in GW?
In the time they are in the tub I will be on the look out for a 30 gallon for them to come back to, to carry on the growth!

Here's Ems..

I do use Photoshop a lot, and while the colours maybe have been tampered with, the body shape has definitely and significantly improved.

Emsley will likely to be more orange than yellow IMO.

yea, in the tank the orange is slowly receeding leaving yellow, it'll probably come back outside.. oh well I heartpump.gif him anyway!

YAY Lucy! Glad you are going to try this! Its my first time too! It is quite fun. I look forward to going out there and checking on my fish everyday, monitoring the params. Its interesting to me.

I already can tell a difference in Jellybean and its only been a few days. His tail had orange around the end and now it is almost a neon color! It is just sooo bright and beautiful! He is also getting some bright orand on his eyes. His eyes were a half orange color a few months ago and it faded. Looks like its coming back now. Its really, really pretty.

I think Ill get some photos in the next few days or so. smile.gif

biggrin.gif should start a greenwater club laugh.gif and yes Gia... PICS!

Riz, I was reading some of your GW threads on here and there was one about the QT tank going green, but it was in the shade? Do you think its possible for me to do mine in the shade with only a few hours of morning sun, because my garden is north facing (mostly the sun shines at the front of the house) and the only place i think my mum will approve of me putting this tub without it being an eyesore is on the patio right next to the house, so is in the shade a lot.
If I were to do it like that, would it be easier to use a small 2 gallon tank in the bright sun (i can hide it between plants biggrin.gif ) to cultivate the first algae then seed the tub with that?
