I was wondering if anyone has experimented with creating a back ground on a computer useing photoShop or something and then just printed it out, Given that it would take alot a paper, and ink, it would be kinda cool to have a different back ground every month or so? If anyone is interested i might be able to piddle around alittle bit in my spare time... or if anyone has alrdy done this, i would love to download it or get it Emailed to me....
So Reply if anyone is interested... Cheers

I dont have a printer big enough to print one that would work on my 75. spit.gif I was thinking of using some material next time. That way I can take it off and throw it in the wash when I needed to. But I am kind of getting use to the bare backs so may keep it this way for a while longer makes the tank seem larger somehow.
chelsea
wow that is such a goooood idea!!! I LOVE IT!
lepperchan
Hey guys,

I am glad you guys like the idea, i didn't realize that fantailfan alrdy thought of it, but regard less, If people could send me Picts of Coral, Fish, Plants from their tank, or what ever picture you would want(in a background), in my spare time i would be happy to try and peice them together, and fool around a little bit and make some cool back grounds.

Cheers... Glad people like te idea biggrin.gif

lepperchan, will these be high quality/detail prints? In other words, will the print be sharp? If so, I'd love to see this!
lepperchan
IT all depends on the pictures i get from people, my dig camera kinda blows so... but mm if you have any picts and want to send them, Lepperchan4@netscape.net

And yea it will be all good, i look forward to seeing what you all can come up with...

For those who would like one big sheet of paper instead of 8.5X11, you can bring your pdf to Kinkos and they'll put it on a poster for you.

Rather than use paper, I go to nnnnnn and dig through their $1/yd cloth. Get a good amount of it, cut it to the back of the tank and hot glue it. I don't have to worry about it being ruined by water and they have some good looking patterns, as well as black!
gldfshkpr
I've seen fabric on the backs of tanks as well, purple. That's a fantastic idea! So many colors and patterns...
chelsea
yeah but when i put my background on last time i tried using hot glue...but it dried too fast and then i had a forever of a time peeling it off...plus you could see it and it looked bad being able to see it.
lepperchan
sad.gif I haven't gotten any pictures from anyone, if someone sent any tell me i will give out my email again(lepperchan4@netscape.net), but more simpler idea i like the whole cloth idea, until i get some picts thats what im going to do i think, thanks for the tips any got anymore keep me informed...

Cheers

Chelsea, only add it to the corners. Also, don't use gobs of it. Small amounts will do... you have to really be ready to do it quickly though. I used cardboard/foil wrapped in black cloth for my boa's tank which is much much heavier than just cloth! You can also glue it to the black plastic bases of the tanks so that you don't see it on the glass, and then tape the sides.
Just some suggestions... = )

recently, i have tried expiramenting with a thick poster board they sell at nnnnnn. its BRILLIANT!! i used spray adhesive and no fastening is needed to keep it upright. since the back of my background is exposed to my wifes kitchen, i mounted reprints of pictures of my children on that side as well. nos she gets to look at the kiddies, and my fish swim in front of mt fuji.
HappyGoldfish
I painted backgrounds on some of my glass tanks - I get overly crafty sometimes. biggrin.gif Took me awhile to make it look decent since I had to paint in reverse. You could paint onto paper and then adhere it to the tank which would be easier. I painted right onto the tank.

P.S. Don't paint acrylic tanks.
chelsea
haha bad experience?
HappyGoldfish
Well I have had bad experiences trying to remove paint from tanks others have painted! But otherwise no. smile.gif Acrylics are sensitive to what chemicals you put on them, and can turn whitish if you use the wrong thing, so I wouldn't risk the paint having something objectionable in it. Also, the paint will seep into the joints of the tank and is nearly impossible to get out, especially without using harsh strippers/cleaners which could also potentially damage the acrylic.
Black oranda
I thought there was a paint just for Aquariums*to paint*?

I like to do my backround up wit da mirror tints that way it gives some depth to it. blink.gif
gldfshkpr
Sounds cool... have any photos ClownKnife?
lepperchan
yea i was wondering about mirrors also, do goldies like mirrors? i know bettas get all crazy, but do Goldies?

koko
My hubby TD tinted on of my tanks:D
The other at one time had a tinted glass frame behind it from his flame work and such biggrin.gif
ClownKnife
Don't have any photos sorry. Will come soon though.

KoKo I tinted one side of my tank that would get direct sun light in the morning thinking that this would help with keeping the algae growth down cause of the UV block.

It didn't work lol.GIF
Black oranda
Koko you send in some photos it would be nice to see biggrin.gif
lepperchan
Yea i dont' get exactly what you mean by tinting the tank? wouldn't that make it hard to see the fish? heh i don't really get it, is it just used as a black back ground?

cheers
chelsea
yeah i think what he means is that he only put the tinting stuff on one side, the back, which is in direct sunlight.
koko
My tanks had the. Only one tank has it now. I will get some photos of Dedes tank shes the only one with it now. It would depend on the kind of tint you would use to cut down the UV light coming into the tank. biggrin.gif

Yep your right Chelsea its only the back and the side glass that is tinted. The nice thing about it is that its fits really close to the glass so that you don't get a refection off of it biggrin.gif

Im a little late on this post but this is a really good idea !
koko
Not very good photo, but you can see that the back glass is darker than the rest. This is limo in the back of the tank. biggrin.gif
Ranchugirl
Wow, whats that great plant there, Koko!! What is that?
koko
Hehe that is
http://www.petco.com/product_info.asp?fami...2D+Plastic&ct3=

I really like it biggrin.gif
ClownKnife
I am a member on koko's hubbies board and was just kicking around the idea of putting a reflective siver film on the back of the tank. It would be better than the paper pictures because it actually adhears to the glass instead of being taped. The fish splashing and water running down the back inbetween the paper and the glass would stain the glass and I could not move the tank to clean it with the paper picture backround.
KoKo have you seen one done with a silver 20? Ask Mr. Wellman if he has seen one done or better yet if you have a small tank have him tint it with a silver 20 and take a pic so I can see what it looks like. That would be really really nice of you guys.

Man Tinting and Fish it doesn't get any better than this. Can I sleep over at your house koko? I will be in CA next week. zzz.gif
koko
rofl3.gif......I see you would get both worlds. Tinting and Goldfish all at once rofl3.gif........We haven't done the silver before but I got an empty 10 gal tank that would could tint half if it and then Ill get some photos for you.

All my tanks that have tint on them aren't taped up there actually tinted. There are two tanks in the home with that. The other two either have a fake back ground or taped black t-shirts on the back. I was to lazy on that tank.
fantailfan
i have that plastic plant!!! its a cool little bonsai tree.
ClownKnife
Hey KoKo have you had a chance to see how a silver20 film would look on the back
back of a tank? I am in CA now and have been visiting tintshops/fish stores. The
I forgot how many nice aquarium shops there are here.
koko
Well TD forgot to get me some Silver tint he had it in the back of my car but never got some for the tank. He says hes sorry and will try to get it done this week.

YEah there are alot of LFS stores but trying to find a good goldfish one is the hard part. biggrin.gif
ClownKnife
I'm getting ready to move the tank into the house tomarrow. I have decided to go with just a dark tinted (5%) backround. I think the silver will look to buisy/cheesey. Tell TD not to waste any time on my account. biggrin.gif
koko
Well I gave him the Honey not done list. He said sorry he forgot.......hummm hehehmn.gif
Black oranda
Koko,i just saw your tank pictures very nice biggrin.gif
Bonkers
I think this is a very good idea (making your own backgrounds) but what kind of pictures would you choose? I don't really understand how a small picture could become a high quality (not fuzzy) image large enough for the back of a tank.

I was looking at posters for tanks too, but I couldn't find anything I liked sad.gif
SuSu
All very cool ideas! I have a weird shaped tank, so I bought cheap watercolors at drugstore, and painted paper and taped. Works real good if you are artistic. Water colors are cool cuz you can make it look really different if the paper is kinda wet, like streaky sunset like.

Something else I just thought of, would be placemats, especially if they are laminated and a cool design.
Sidekick and Slim
I love the cloth idea. That's what I've always done. I have a beautiful blue piece of material that has a sort of tie-dyed effect with a pattern of sort of squigglies in white. I like having not a super dark background, but something dark enough to create a little shadow, I think that it contributes to the hiding areas in the back of the tank.
