Hi i am really angry because my Juwel Powerhead has decided to pack up on me 1 day before setting my new tank up! WHat am i going to do now!? My fish will die? I really do hope not, what can i do to make sure they get through the next few days whilst i let the new tank settle/chlorine escape before adding them?

I am really worried about this, im so unfortunate with things like this happening to me!

Please help!

Thank you all in advance!

Oh dear sad.gif Unfortunately, I think you may need to invest in another powerhead in order to keep your existing filter going until your new setup is ready. Maybe you could get a secondhand one, Juwel powerheads are not too much as I remember.

In the meantime I would suggest - underfeeding your fish (to reduce the waste and bioload), keeping a close eye on your test results and regular, maybe daily water changes of 30-50% - but be guided by your test results.

If your new tank was nearly ready I would just suggest keeping an eye on your parameters and water changing as necessary, but if you're still cycling your new tank/filter you may need to replace your existing powerhead as soon as possible as it could be a few more days/weeks yet till your new tank is ready to transfer the fishies.

Hope you get it sorted soon smile.gif

I have my airstone to the max with a powrful rena pump pumping air bubbles like crazy! Will this help a bit?

Someone has recomended me to put the fishes in the tank after a few days with my current media as it will instantlly be cycled in theory...

Then my external filter media can mature in its own time?

The air pump will help to keep the water moving and oxygenate the tank yes

If you mean transfer the fish early to your new tank and transfer the existing filter media to the new filter, then yes this should work - although you may have a bump in your cycle which could stress the fish. Keep a very close eye on your parameters if you do this and water change as necessary. smile.gif

The transfered filter media will then help to seed the new stuff, then you can gradually remove the old stuff over the next few weeks.

do i need to put my airstone underneath my media in the juwel casing or do i just need to keep it full blast in the whole tank (middle of the tank) ?

Thats an interesting question unsure.gif and to be honest I don't know

I see what your saying - that the airstone may help to run a kind of air-driven filtration though the filter media, not sure about that, it may work.

If it was me, I would just leave the air stone going wherever it usually is, keep a close eye on your parameters and water change as necessary.

If you've done a substantial water change in the last few days, personaly I would recheck the parameters in the morning and take it from there. smile.gif

ok mate thank you for the help. Will check water tomorrow and then do a water change if need to

thanks again, Mike

No problems mate, I hope you get it sorted smile.gif

Have you tried cleaning the impeller on your powerhead? I've found that the most common reason any powerhead stops working is that mineral deposits build up on the impeller shaft and keep the impeller from rotating freely on the shaft.
