can anyone name a few aquarium plants that does not require planting? i am lookin for a couple floating plants for my 55gal tank.

I believe Java moss doesnt have to be planted. You can let it float on the waters surface.

Java mos and hornwort don't have to be planted but they do look messy. Plants like salvinia, water velvet, water hyacinth, duckweed, and frogbit are pretty, but if you don't maintain it, it can quickly cover the surface and they need more ventilation than the average aquarium.. Lotuses will root in the substrate but make lovely floating lily pads. Water lettuce is a pretty plant too. Ludwigia helminthorrhiza can be either planted or floated.
