Full Version: Making Sure All Traces Of Bleach Are Gone

I had to use a bleach solution (and also vinegar and baking soda) to disinfect the used tank and filter I bought, so now of course I am paranoid about the bleach not being rinsed out all the way.

I definitely cannot smell any bleach and have rinsed everything to death, but I am especially worried about the gravel. I thought someone told me that Prime would help detoxify bleach, which I guess would make sense because of the chlorine?

So if I can't smell it, rinsed it a ton and use a lot of Prime, will that be good enough? The fish will not be in the tank for two days or so anyway. Thanks!

You should be alright as long as you can't smell it, and when the tank is set up, use double the reccomended amount of dechlorinator.

I think I also heard somewhere on here that sitting the stuff in the sunshine for a day will help cause the UV will break down the bleach. Just remember to bring it in before the dew hits or it'll be a wet mess.

A good dose of sunshine definetly helps disinfect and the prime will help detox anything left too. You could soak it once more in prime and rinse well....then set up! biggrin.gif
