I've had this 55 gallon setup for awhile now and I am so bored with the decor. I am completely stumped for ideas when it comes to change. I would like a nice centerpiece or maybe something taller in there. I would welcome any and all suggestions!!
Here are pics of it now:

I like it the way it is now Erin...BUT if you insist on changing it I would look for a big buddah centerpiece to add to it, That would look cool I think. biggrin.gif

Or are you looking to change the whole decor of it?

Erin, if I have to be frank, I think there's no continuity from the ornaments, no connection. It's like u just put them there without any meaning. May u could make a theme e.g. Buddha, Kelp Forest, Natural, etc and get the necessary ornaments accordingly biggrin.gif

Riz-I think it's a Asian type theme that she has in there right now, That came off kinda harsh! wink.gif
glitterfish
I agree Riz. I had this grand thing in my head but when I put everything together it just isnt working. Everything is in the bottom of the tank. Its BORING! laugh.gif The background doesnt even really work!

Dells, I like the idea of a big buddah. I wonder where I could find one for not a lot of moola.

smile.gif Hey Erin, I have always liked this tank, but I agree with Della, a Buddah would be fantastic! heartpump.gif I love the Asian theme.

How about a Greek Ancient Ruins theme. I wanted to get it for my tank but my tank is not big enough. They have a backround which is blue with a greek goddess on it and and ancient Greek Ruins at Petsmart that would fit your tank. They also have an ancient Greek Colleseum ruin at petsmart that would look great in you tank with it. Also if you want to do the asian theme- Petco has all kinds of asian temples and pagadoa decor . Me I kinda of favor the Greek theme. I wanted the backround for my tank but it only comes in sizes bigger than 20 gallons.

heartpump.gif I have that background but I use the other side which is my desert landscape! I love that Greek background, very preatty!
bettaqueen
I know it is pretty cool. I hope they get around to making a smaller version of it like they have all the other backrounds. Would love to get it. Right now I have the coral reef one. There is a yellow marine fish swiming on there and it is funny the goldies go over and look at it like it is another fish.
glitterfish
Ive actually seen that background. The only thing is that I have all this Asian inspired themed stuff. I guess I wouldnt mind losing the dragon or the pagoda. I can always sell them on Ebay anyways. laugh.gif Im on the hunt for a Buddah as we speak!
bettaqueen
If you are looking for uique stuff like that you may need to look at small garden ornatments and then see what they are made of. Seems to me I saw something that would work in a goldie tank in the area of wally world by the bird seed and pets stuff
glitterfish
Thanks, Kris!! Im looking on Ebay at the moment. I want something pretty tall to add interest to the overall tank.

Target biggrin.gif Do you have targets near you? They had so many left over from the cultural decor thing they had going on months ago that they were pretty cheap. I don't know if they still have them... but Goldfishkrazy2 has the right idea. A lot of similar stuff are made for gardens.
glitterfish
Actually I do have a Target near me. Are you talking about the Global Bizaar section?

Also does anyone know was 29 X 12 cms is in inches?
d_golem
Did it come off kinda harsh, Dells? I was just being honest, and I didn't mean to be harsh at all, but Erin's agree with me anyway. As for u said that Erin's tank is Asian-themed, I have to look very closely again at the pics and then I recognise the dragon & the temple, but the arrangement isn't working cos u gotta look twice before recognising the theme.

Erin asked for any suggestions and I gave mine honestly smile.gif

PS: Sometimes the less decor the better, with a little hint at the theme.
glitterfish
Yes, I think I have too much stuff in there and no interest. Maybe a big center piece and a few plants should do it.

Well I'm not gonna start anything Riz, But I know how it came off at first. wink.gif

I don't have to look twice to know what the theme of the tank is myself.

A nice big buddah is what I'm seeing, With some nice plants..Maybe a new background? smile.gif Oh lord she's on EVIL BAY AGAIN!!!! rofl3.gif
glitterfish
Evil Bay is right!!! I found a cool 16" statue but they want $52 for it plus shipping!
froggydella
laugh.gif Hit up Target most DEF Erin-I've gotten quite a few of the "Global" Decoration's from there for pretty cheap.

I know the Big Buddah that we have in the living room was only $20! I think you've seen him before, Right?
glitterfish
I think so, why dont you sell him to me?? laugh.gif
froggydella
LOL! Jason would KILL me, That's his FAV decoration in this house.... laugh.gif

I'll see if I can find their on-line store.
glitterfish
I found a great one but the darn thing has FELT on the bottom. Wonder if I can remove it?
d_golem
Long broad-leaved plants like Anubias and Java Fern on the sides and background will do most nicely I think, with some smaller ones in the middle and foreground. A big pagoda as a centrepiece is also good.
glitterfish
Are those plants yummy to goldies or should I go the silk plant route?
Ponderosa Power
I checked my 10" tall buddah I got at Target and there is not felt bottom. I think it would sink...but it does feel unusually light so I am not sure. I might try it out before my mom gets home happy.gif

U would think their tough leaves will deter goldies, right? My goldies think theu were yummy, and destroyed 3/4 of Java Ferns and Anubias I planted in my tank lol. Different goldies, different preferences, but to be safe maybe follow the "silk road" yeah.gif
Barbra44
My plants seem to be safe for about 6-8 months, and then overnight it's like the goldfish menu changed and they have an instant buffet on their hands. It's ridiculous.

Go the silk route.. I'm slowly changing to that as well. To expensive to keep restocking the tank.
glitterfish
Thanks Barb. smile.gif

Im kind of thinking of putting one of those long rectangular vases in the middle and using fake bamboo in them since I guess I cant use real lucky bamboo. Im not having a lot of luck finding a buddah for the right price.
froggydella
LOOKIE!!!

This one is exactly like the one I have Erin..smile.gif

headscratch.gif Ill have to think about the height. I have a TALL tank. I did see those though. Do you think they would sink?? Thanks hun. heartpump.gif
froggydella
Well when I pick our's up it's not exactly light, So I would think it should sind down fine for you.

Our's is about a foot tall. Those look identical to what I have sitting here. smile.gif

Your welcome hun. smile.gif
glitterfish
Aw, yours it taller then. Trade you! laugh.gif Throw it in your fish tank and tell me if it sinks! rofl3.gif
