I fed my new ghost shrimp a peice of algae wafer today and they ate, I was so happy for them ^^ However, as soon as that wafer started to soften up, my tetras became sharks, circling the tank trying to find that yummy food that they smelled. When they found it, they grabbed it and tore it around the tank, chomping off peices, with the ghostie still hanging on and fighting for his food. When they had enough to eat, every one of their bellies protruded out and started moving around. What do I do? This happened before when I experimented with algae wafers. They scarf it down so fast they don't realize how filling it is and then their stomachs balloon and move around (like there's an alien inside, if anyone remembers my panick about a year ago). Eeek! I have a couple otos that will be ready for that tank soon and they need the algae wafers too. I'm not sure if feeding at night would help...my tetras are pretty agressive eaters.

Try experimenting with different brands. Most algae wafers I've heard people speak of stay hard as a rock for hours, they just gradually get softer around the edges for the fish to nibble on.
I use HBH Veggie Wafers.
