I was at pet depot today.
needless to say, the condition of their fish are less than satisfactory,
buuut. I saw a beatiful male betta, sitting in a small uber tiny bowl.
I had the money to purchase him, and a place to keep him. He was the only healthy looking one there. Seeing as my little brother had throughly tee-ed mom off, I restrained myself and vowed to come back and rescue him, or if not him, another unfortunate fish. my friend had one heck of a time convincing me not to get him, and practicaly had to tie me up, to keep from blathering and pestering the people looking to buy them and other fish. Alas, I had to stick with passive agressive methods, like walking by and say "Gee, I need to upgrade my 10 gallon to a 20 or so for my SINGLE goldfish, he has no room." unsure.gif

I love bettas.

As far as fish and their homes go, I just tell people flat out when they are looking at goldfish.

I find myself recommending bettas to people who are looking at goldfish and holding those 2.5 gallon tank kits...

In general, people listen to me.

LOL, when I saw your subject I thought you meant your betta bit you! rofl3.gif

I have never been a fan of bettas, the ones I had as a child just lay there and would eventually die, but of course now I know that it was because they were not properly cared for! I still wasn't too interested but then someone gave my daughter one for her birthday and I was hooked. I still just have that one and he is the fussiest little thing God love him, but I still spoil him. It's worth it when he does his little "feed me" dance and looks up at me with his beady little betta eyes...

The first betta I ever saw was a betta in a vase at my bf's fraternity.

I thought they looked like dreadful little things, because they just sat in the vase and pretty much starved to death.

But then, I wanted a pet for my dorm room and ended up getting one and a little tank for it and everything, because I figured I could keep a betta better than my bf's frat brothers.

I was hooked.

Hope you find the Betta of your dreams soon heartpump.gif

Like all pets, you do get very attached to them. I lost my Basil a couple of weeks back and I was really upset, it surprised me how much it affected me sad.gif

Best of luck with your new one when you get him

This want has been absolutely picking at me for the past few days.
My friend gave me money to purchase one, food for it and other much needed things for my possible new resident and a few things for my GF.
Now comes the convincing of my mother.
She does not see my enfactuation with my current goldfish, or non-mammal animals in general. Its surpising, because we have 5 cats, 4 of whom where adopties and strays, 2 hamsters, heck, even our GF is a rescue.

Unless I wanted to be evil and dastardly.
I could have my friend buy me one I've selected, and bring it home and surprise me.
But that my prompt my mother into a fish flushing fit of rage. -.-

I think I'll stick to kissing butt for now. dry.gif

Is it a bad thing if instead of sleeping I'm to busy dreaming up ideas for fish tank decorations and accomidations? rofl3.gif
I do this with all of my pets. They are rolling in toys and are spoiled absolutely sweet. laugh.gif

I was thinking. After I upgrade my commet to a much needed 20 gallon, the betta could live in the 10 gallon. Just a thought.

When I first read that I thought that your betta had bitten you too! LOL I was going to tell you you're not alone and my girls bite me all the time! Anyway... Good luck with your mom. The 10 gallon would be great for a betta or maybe even multiple ones if you wanted to set up a sorority or split tank. I have a 10 gallon betta tank split 3 ways.

Hehe. Betta fish soroity.
I think, given the chance, that I might just do that, because it amuses me so.
How many fresh-out-of-betta-cup-collage girls will safely fit in a 10 gallon?
Imber
I think that generally you'll want 4-6 girls for a 10g. If you do decide to go with girls, add them all at the same time if possible and be sure to have lots of hiding places for them while they try to sort out their pecking order. I have 3 females in their own tanks and I seriously think they have more personality than my boys. heartpump.gif
