Full Version: How Do I Trim & Secure Liner?

Right now it's sticking up & out, about 6 inches out of the barrel. I don't mind the liner being visible, but I'd rather not have any on the top rim, and definately none on the outside of the barrel.

How do I secure it in a fish-safe and none-destructive way? I'm assuming staple guns are out . . .

btw, no fishies in the barrel yet. I'm waiting until everything's in place and cycled.

Yeah, staples would be a good idea. Or you could use flat rocks aroung the edging also. What ever suits you the best,

So I can use a staple gun? Yay!

It's a barrel, so there isn't really anywhere to put the rocks.

There should be different sized staples to the staple gun. Pick a size that is not all that long. If your barrel is anything like mine, I wouldn't get any staples that are more than 1/2 inch. I think 3/8 inch are the ones I have at the moment. That way it doesn't penetrate the liner on the inside of the barrel. smile.gif

Brass tacks would be better as they will not rust and fall apart eventually. I'm assuming it's a flexible sheet liner.

I drilled some holes in my barrel bottom and sides so the water can drain from between the barrel and the liner.

Then fill with water for a week or so to let everything settle. I just trimmed mine even with the top all around. I fashioned a spillway at the notch from the bung with a scrap of the liner so overflows from rain would have a place to go.

I'm still in Ireland now, but I should post a couple pics when I get home. smile.gif

Edit: I'm also assuming it's a wooden barrel.
