I bought 2 packs of aponogetons and 1 pack of lily bulbs sold at w-mart about 2 weeks ago, so far 6 of the apons have sprouted, ill.gif one lily and apon bulb have rotted, 2 apons have grown quite a bit and have already rooted. So I was wondering if anyone has had lilies or apons survive in a goldfish tank. Right now all my plants are growing in a separate tank.

I've tried the apon bulbs in my oranda tank and the guys usually wont let them grow. As soon as they would sprout some green, either Fred jr. or Sade would nibble on them or uproot the bulbs. They haven't touched the lilly bulbs (yet). I've hidden some of the other bulbs at the base of a fake plant and near the bubble wall and they don't seem to bother those.

All of my bulbs are in growing in a seperate tank untill they have rooted and grown large enough to go into my goldfish tank. The two I mentioned before each have 3 inch long leaves and have a decent amount of roots. I am thinking of trying out one of the bulbs in the tank and seeing if my fish will eat them or not.

laugh.gif The plant has been in the tank for a few hours now and my goldie didn’t bother to nibble at any of the leaves, but she didn’t hesitate digging up the plant and moving it somewhere else. Lol since she is the one who has to live in the tank I guess that she should have some say in where the plants go.

laugh.gif Yeah, just when you think that they're not going to notice them, you look and say,"Hey...What happened to my plant?" rofl3.gif
Personally I have had NO luck with any live plants of any kind with my Goldfish .
Smack gave me two huge Onion plants, which once they get that big, their leaves are like leather, and you should see Mambo my Moor trying to rip them off to eat! Thud.gif

blink.gif I sure hope that she doesn’t eat them, at least the rest are safe if she dose decide that she likes the taste of apon salad. She has more of a sweet tooth though, she has eaten every type of fruit that I’ve ever popped in the tank, but she won't eat most of the vegetables that I have tried, the only ones that she will eat are peas and broccoli.

I put an apon in my goldie tank once. It lasted two days and has been "recovering" for about two months now. They left it alone at first then all at once they started munching. I put it back in the snail tank with it's buddy.
