Frankie, one of my pond fish that I've had for years, has his mouth stuck open. I noticed it a minute ago and I watched him to see if he was eating, but he seems to just be swimming around like this. I grabbed the net and got ahold of him and looked in his throat and I don't see anything in there or in his gills. It's open REALLY far too. WHAT IS UP WITH THIS?! He's in a 240 gallon pond with 5 other fish, it's cycling and has been battling high nitrites. No ammonia anymore. sad.gif

unsure.gif Are you positive that there was no foreign objects that he could have swallowed? That is usually the case. Also, did ya lookon the top of his roof of his mouth for any type ulcer? unsure.gif

Yeah, his mouth looks totally normal. I could see down so far too. I just checked him again and it's still stuck, but maybe a little better? Weird, right? Thanks Devs, I'm going to keep an eye on him today, I'll post back a little later to tell what it's doing.

You didn't notice this around feeding time did ya? One of my Red Caps swallowed a whole Algae Wafer and was doing that for a couple of hours once.I couldn't see the wafer in his throat, but I was right there when it happened and man did it scare me. Apparently after it dissolved,hi mouth was closed again. idont.gif I guess it was uncomfortable for him having it wedged in and maybe that's the only way he could be until iot was done. I hate when these abnormal things happen...You just don't have a clue. krazy.gif

Well it's better. it's still not completely normal, but at least he's shutting it now. I hadn't fed them anything today when this happened. Leave it to my fish to freak me out over stuff when I already have enough going on. rolleyes.gif

glad to hear your pond fish has improved....

You know... it sounds like something that happened to me when I was a kid... YOu know when your mom says "keep doing that to your face and it will stick like that".... haha.
