fish & snail
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just moved my apple snail to my main tank with my big comet, and my fish wont leave him alone! My fish is about 10 inches long and the snail is about an inch and a half. My fish keeps picking at him. Will he hurt him?

The snail will contract in to his shell if he feels that threatened so I wouldn't worry. Does it look like the comet wants to eat him? If not, just let him have fun pushing him around in the tank My fish harass my apple snails all the time If you're that worried, move him back BTW: Why did you move him anyways??

He has lots of new growth on his shell so I'm worried that it might be fragile. I originally bought him to go in my 32 gallon with Right? and eventually Meeko will go in there when he's bigger. I reallly need a snail because there is algae and the bottom is looking kinda cruddy. I just couldnt put him in yet because I salted a few weeks ago and didnt want to take chances. Now I've done about 4 water changes and I wanted to put him in there. There's a lot for him to explore and I think he'll really like it! I'm just worried that Right? will eat him. One of his little antennas is shorter than the other like it was nipped off! I have such mean fish.
I think I'll just keep a close eye on him. Maybe Right? is just curious for now. Thanks for the reply!

I've had my Golden Apple snail for almost 3 weeks and the comets have never bothered him. Once in a while they swim close to Zippy, but as far as I've seen steer clear. Mind you they have all of a sudden displayed a joy in interior decorating and are digging huge holes in gravel beds daily, as well as moving around the plastic octopus that is in the bottom.

watch him

watch your snail pretty closely for the next few weeks. Sometimes fish will bite at their antennea thinking that they are worms, and this causes the snail to stay inside of his shell all the time and actually starve to death. This hasn't ever happened to me (I have a mystery snail with my two orandas aka the swimming vaccum cleaners who will try to eat anything that moves...and sometimes stuff that doesn't move), but I have know people that it has happened to. So just make sure you watch him

PS...the new growth shouldn't be any softer than the old stuff Good luck!

My 2 fantails and my new pearlscale ignore my snail.
The new growth might be different because of the different conditions in your tank than at the fish shop. My snail grew so much and the growth was a slightly different colour. I think it was because the conditions in my tank are better than at the fish shop and it created a growth spurt.
