Now i have 3 batches of babies fish! But i still need some info about my tropical batch.Any tropical fish experts for here?I don't even know what specie is my fish!
Ponderosa Power
What do they look like? How did they lay the eggs (scatter them along the bottom, attatch them to a leaf or ornament, maybe gave birth to live babies). A pic of the adults would really help.

As Kissy said, a pic would be great... if you dont have a cam, maybe find a pic on the web of the same species and post it here smile.gif
hexueqi
how do i post an image?
hexueqi
They layed the eggs everywhere and they weren't sticky like goldfish ones. The eggs already hatched. At first i thought that they were gone and that the big fish might have eaten it.When i looked closer i saw some near the surface of the water.

Looks like a black skirt tetra to me smile.gif

Hmmmm...i called the pet shop and they said its a black widow tetra.Couldbe but its fins are white not black...
Ponderosa Power
They are the same species. Are the fins always that color? It could be stress. The colors on those fish also fade as they age.

yea...i guess they're not to happy in their new home...we had to move them to a smaller tank cause they started to bit our goldfishes tails!

Now these guys are really small. You have three choices; you can try feeding a really fine powder like A.P.R. from OSI, or try micro worms or vinegar eels. After about the second or third day, you may be able to get them to eat newly hatched brine shrimp. Refrain from water changes for about two weeks. The fry are really susceptible to changing water conditions in the beginning.
Black Tetras do grow really fast and are a selling size at about 2 ?months. Once they reach the one month mark, they will eat just about anything you throw at them.

hexueqi
what are vinegar eels?I also have no idea what A.P.R is nor do i know what are micro worms or OSI
tinkerbell
what size tank have you got the tetras in?

vinegar eels are a type of worm that you can feed to you fish that live in unpasteurized vinegar. they are very small, and you could either feed tose to your fish, or microworms that eat yeast smile.gif of course you could just feed them crushed up flakes if they are that small and only feed the worms as a treat smile.gif
Kissys right that the tetra's colour should be more defined unsure.gif
Colour is controled by the neuroendocrine system (sp?), so loss of neurological control (e.g: due to flukes) can lead to colour changes in the skin.

How long have you had the fish? Is it a new tank and what size? Is there strong lighting or limited hiding places in the tank? Are they always that shade or just because it was stressed in the net for the photo? Are the rest the same color? I know their colors and contrast do fade with age, but that is pretty faded. You must be doing something right if they are breeding for you though wink.gif

Edit: Here is a link with photos and comments about them. http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_blackt.php

I've been keeping them for nearly one year!I had to tranfer them from tank to tank many times!first they started off with 5 of them in this big tank with the goldfish them theystarted bitting 'em so i had to tranfer them to a smaller tank. then 3 of em died of unknown reasons.the last two had to be tranferred again because the tank started to leak and they were living in a tiny plastic thing...The stopped eating for a few days....and then i got the eggs. The eggs have already hatched and i have no idea what to feed the fry.I guess like goldfish they'll start eating after 1 half days
hexueqi
The tank is....Tiny.There are no hiding places.....I guess the light was too strong......

Now i know why they're called Black Widow Tetras! This morning, One of them was missing from the plastic tub i put them into temporarly (their own tank was being used by the fry).We looked everywhere and we found the male one under the chair.....dead cry3.gif Half his body was gone ,eaten by they female fish(?).I'm not really sure about the getting eaten part.I put the female fish into the goldfish tank.Theres algae and stuff in there so i guess it won't go hungry and start biting the goldfish tails again.
tinkerbell
you will need to feed them flakes. they cant live on algae. The reason she would ahve been biting the goldies fins is because they were probably long and flowy. This is the reason goldies and trops should not be kept together. I doubt it would have ahd anything to do with her being hungry unsure.gif
hexueqi
ok....I'll have to tell my grandfather.IM in shanghai now so i can't do it myself.....
hexueqi
Can i feed the baby tetras mashes egg yolk?
Ponderosa Power
I think so. I don't know much about rearing fry of any kind, but its worth a shot.
