It has been a while since I have had a tropical tank, but a friend gave me a 30 gal tank w/ the works. I set it up a few days ago and today I put in some fish. 2 dwarf graumies, 2 corries and 8 neons. my question being how long will it take the neons to come up off the bottom and start swiming aroud. everyone else has setteled in well. yeah.gif

The neons ound like they have a nice group smile.gif

give them a couple of days to addapt and learn about each other then they should school together.

As its a new tank, check the params of the water often.
With good water and a few days getting used to each other it should go ok
If they dont eat in first 2 days, thats ok too as they assimiliate smile.gif

best of luck!

The neons should be up and swimming in a couple of days, just make sure you keep checking the water params and make sure you are doing water changes!

Good luck and keep us updated!

smile.gif Glad to hear that everyone seems happy.Sometimes Neon's are tough to keep healthy-especially in newer tanks.Because it's not cycled, you're going to have to really watch the water param's well. Good luck and post some pics soon.

My fish usually end up on the right side back corner for some reason when I first put them in the tank. I have a 30 gallon also. My son just bought me 2 platys, one red wag and one mickey mouse. Thankfully the employee knew better and gave him two females. Enjoy your tank, I sure do.

Sad news cry3.gif . The sunshine band has been murdered ohmy.gif . The tiger barbs did it today. but on a lighter note the bacteria i used to cycle the tank has done an amazing job and all my params are right on the money smile.gif . well off to have a small service and flush some fish. Any body have any Ideas of fish that will net get murdered by the gruamie's or the tigers???

Tiger barbs are very aggressive fish and will go after most others. How many do you have? In schools of 7+ they tend to channel the aggression toward their own kind and not defensless tankmates. It might be a good idea to bring them back if you don't want to try a larger school. Gouramis are pretty docile, especially with other species of fish.

I have 5 tigers that a friend brought me. They were from a pair that had mated in his tank, they are about 1 in long. they do seem to chase eachother around alot. any other fish that would be able to go in with what I have???

I would go ahead and get at least two more tiger barbs first. I think after that you'll probably be stocked or close to it. Sorry I can't help more. I don't really know much about tiger barbs except that they can be very aggressive.
