....but I don't care! It's awesome to see baby fishies in my new pond. It's been set up for less than a month, and there are already around a hundred new babies. I set up a "veggie filter" -- 2 kiddie pools, complete with water plants [2 lotus, a star sedge, dwarf cattails, red water lilies in the upper pool, 2 large parrots feather and water hyacinth in the lower]. I'm using a UV sterilizer to control "green water" and bacteria.

Just kinda neat to go poking around in the parrots feather and find tiny fry! [These are my first goldfish/koi babies!]

EDIT: I found the fry in the kiddie pool with the parrots feather. There are a number of possible places the babies came from: with the plants [which have been in the pond for over a week], eggs got sucked into the pump and drifted to the second pool where they were caught in the plants, or...nowhere. happy.gif

What kind of goldfish are in the pond, and who do you suspect to be the parents?

where'd the plants come from? if they're from Florida, they might have been holding eggs of the Florida Bluefin Killifish (Lucania goodei) . Hobbyists often report the sudden appearances of these fish in their planted tanks.

There are comet goldfish [1 red/white, 2 shubunkin, 1 mostly white w/blue&purple&pink skin] and koi [2 standard, a few butterfly]. The plants came from Fairview, TN from a nursery, and sold to me by a local TN nursery [Columbia]. The people that own the nursery also have goldies [where two of mine came from], and have had eggs find their way into their aquatic plants, no matter where they came from.

I got a better look at some of the "fry" this morning, and much to my dismay, they resemble tadpoles! There are tree and bull frogs in my area, and I have seen small tree frogs on my lily pads. So, they may not be fishies at all -- but the fish don't mind them, so neither do I. I'm sure the recouperating goldie [bad tail damage from injury] isn't minding all the protein. biggrin.gif
