Can anyone recommend any filters i should use in a 55 gallon tank.. but without spending too much money..?
It would be greatly appriciated.

Personally I would get a Fluval canister 304 then a inexpensive HOB filter. This way the tank has twice as much moving power and when you need to clean one the other is still in good working condition and all the good stuff in it

Well, others have recommended AC300's and 500s..

If the Fluval 304 is not in the range you want, the 304 is a great canister filter, IMHO. But you can get a Fluval 4plus and a HOB.

You could get a pair of Penguin 330's. That would give you
the magical 10x's filtration for the 55. They are on sale
at drsfostersmith.com for $21 each plus s/h.
Don't know if they would ship down under though.

I just spoke with Rick from Goldfish connection. I am planning on getting a 55 gallon. He likes his AquaClear 600. He isn't thrilled with the Diatom Filter or Biowheels.
