Full Version: Attatching Plants To Fake Driftwood
Forum > The Goldfish Topics > Goldfish Tanks > Goldfish plants, & how to set up a planted tank
Ponderosa Power
I hate my driftwood. Ever since I bought it it pollutes the water with its tea color and has been rotting in my tank ever since, causing nitrates to sky rocket and blue-green algae to grow uncontrollably. I can't keep up with it anymore, out it goes. dry.gif

But I do still love the look of drift wood so much, so I'm opting for resin-made stuff. I'm thinking along the lines of this: http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_det...twood&N=2023693 and this: http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_det...twood&N=2023693. Can I still attatch plants like anubias and java fern to them?

Thanks smile.gif

I don't see why you can't attach plants to ornaments. I think the surface may somehow be a bit too slippery for roots to take hold (although admittedly, I've never tried it)..

I've got real driftwood in my tanks and I'll be honest, I've tossed some out because of the same problem you're having but if you boil them for a few days before introducing them into your tank, the tanin's are reduced and the water no longer goes brown...

It would be interesting to see if anyone has had success attaching real plants to ornaments smile.gif

I picked out a very nice looking peice of driftwood from petsmart yesterday. It wasn't one that I showed before and I can't find a photo of it, but I really like it. Its by topfin and I think it even has more texture than the real stuff I had.

smile.gif Hey Kissy,I have seen alot of people attach plants to those bigger polished River stones too.I have a JAva Fern that I just tied to one.Now the waiting of the roots to grow and "Atach". laugh.gif

Well if they can attatch to polished river stones I think I'll be okay smile.gif I'm gonna wait a few weeks so I can get some fishing line and get some anubias before I start. My parents are so mad at me and are sick of taking me to all the petstores in town. They don't understand that some stores carry some things that others do not. Then they thought it was stupid that I was ordering some stuff online and paying almost the same amount in shipping dry.gif
