Full Version: I Still Have Cloudy Water!

It's been a few weeks since i last posted about my tank having cloudy water. but the water is still cloudy. I've added pads/foam to my external filter in the hopes of removing what ever it is plus i've done lots of water changes 1/4 - 1/2 the volume of the tank every few days.

Ammonia is 0 so are Nitraites and nitites and PH is 7.5.

I've added no more salt to the tank for about a month now cos i thought that this might be the problem. but i'm getting sick and tired of it.
i do have a build up of algae on the silicon of the tank and on the rubber joins on the filters but other then this and the fact that glass looks to have a sight tint to it i have no idea what is happening.

The fish seem fine and when I remove the water it looks clean enough. Also the tank is situated in a room that gets a lot of light but isn’t in direct sunlight.

these two pics show what i mean, you can't see the pipes behind the fish, i should see them as clear as day right?

That is strange. If it was a bloom of heterotrophic bacteria, it should have cleared up by now... Heck, it's been a month.

Just out of curiosity, does the cloudiness get better or worse a couple of days after you do a water change?

I'm this sounds a little strange but have you wiped down the inside of the glass? A slime film can build up there and it gives the tank a cloudy appearance.

Fishmerised: *bangs head on wall* I wiped it down today and you know what......it does look less cloudy. I think I’m going to give some serious thought about getting some hillstreams or a bristle nose

And to answer another question that was posted it does get progressively cloudier. Could this mean i need to do more frequent water changes?

You could try using a micropad (AquaOne) they are more expensive but are so fine they act as mechancial filtration for miniscle particles as well as biological filtration. This micropad really helped with a green water problem I had once.

The other thing of course is that it is a bacterial bloom, I read your other post and I understand your tank is about 7 weeks old. That's just about the right age for these blooms to happen. I think Bak2it had the right idea.

There really isn't anything you can do about these blooms, I'm inclined to think that too many water changes actually make them last longer. My tanks were cloudy for a couple of months. I would stick to regular weekly water changes and try a micropad, it may help a bit.
