The Koi Society of Western Australia had their annual show today and I had the chance of attending it my first fish show ever!

I was taken aback at how many people attended the show, given my belief that Perth is too small for a healthy fish society to thrive.

Too bad they don't have any goldfish, but some of the kois I saw were GIGANTIC (over 2 feet long) and although I don't know anything about what makes a good koi, they just oozed class and were absolutely MAJESTIC.

I've never been to a fish show or had any idea how they did them really. For some reason I imagined them held inside. Really interesting. Koi would be shown in buckets because they look best from above right? They all look incredible, works of art the coloring. That very first pic has an unusual koi with a kinda zigzag pattern across the back- very unusual. And the last 9 I suppose were all winners.

Oh these pictures absolutely do them no justice at all. The huge ones were HUGE (I never thought I'd see a koi that big) and they were 100x better when u see them in person.

Btw Imogen, I left before the prizes were given, so I don't know whether the last 9 pics were winners. I just thought they were absolutely gorgeous

Those were great shots! I absolutely love the tri-colors and metallics. Those are my faves.

I was lucky enouhg to go to a (tiny) koi show here a few years ago. They had some nice small ones for sale. Of course neither me or the friend I went with had ponds but hey, we could dream.

The show I went to also got many very small ones for sale. Mind you, they all look similar to my untrained koi eyes but the many asian guys hover over the tub for hours trying to find the ones with the best potential
