Hiya!!

My tank has finally cycled but now struggling with nitrates....*sigh* Ive been doing a water change everday but it doesnt seem to help much. I decided to check my tap water and its coming out at 50!!!!!

My question is this......could I use RO water to do water changes? I used to keep discus and used this water for them. It would be nitrate free right? I know Id have to probably keep an eye on the ph but thought this might be easier to do than fight the nitrates. Was thinking maybe using nothing but RO water or maybe mixing half and half to dilute the nitrate going into the tank.

Ive tested my tap water before and its never been below 25. I kind of feel like im fighting a losing battle as its this high before I even put it in the tank.

I have tried nitrasafe but not having much luck with it. Does anyone know anything that actually works? Im in the UK. (with the exception of plants....tried that too)

Cheers

Yes, goldfish can be kept in RO water, I know Daryl does it. If you know what you are doing it will be ok.

Be careful when choosing a nitrAte absorbing product, some of them will leach nitrAtes back into the water if salt is added. Also they are only useful in absorbing small amounts of nitrAtes, up to 15ppm from what I understand. I don't think they will help much in your situation.

Thanks.

Daryl if you are out there can you advise!!??
