I've read about it and have actually ordered some from PondRX. It comes with some advice by Doc Johnson (KoiVet) I want it to clear up my algae and to help with any parasites my fish might have picked up. I gather my water hyacinths from a public lake here in Florida and I always worry I'm going to bring home some nasty parasite.
I'm a little nervous about using a new product and will read all directions very carefully, but it would be nice to hear of any end-user's first hand experiences with this stuff.

thanks,

I've never used it, but I've heard it's pretty nasty... works, but be careful! I've heard of another member here getting it at Sear's, so if you need more, check there, it might be cheaper. Supposedly it's safe for plants, and I'm going to get some for the same reason.

Hopefully someone who's a little bit more helpful comes along! biggrin.gif

I soak my plants in it overnight. If you want to be extra careful, soak them in a bleach dilution first, them soak them in the PP. Thats what i have done in the past.

I personally wouldnd't dose my entire pond with it… because it is easy to OD with. My manager used to treat our store tanks with it for parasites. But in a regular pond I wouldnt use it. Thats just me.

Oh and be warned–anything it touches will be stained brown, and that includes your HANDS! I could not get it off for days! rolleyes.gif

Are you going to leave your fish in the pond during the PP process? IF you know your EXACT water volume, and you can measure EXACTLY what you need for your pond then you will have great success. It will clear EVERYTHING up; it is a three day dosage correct? I've used it but I used it with some sick fish. IF your fish are sick you COULD push them over the edge (kill them). I didn't over dose my pond; I pushed two fish over the edge. It was a bad day for me (and of course those two fish). It can also get rid of what ever the sick fish has, so you just have to know what you’re dealing with.

IF YOU OVER DOSE YOU'LL KILL YOUR FISH!

BUT, here is some great news. Before you PP get some Hydrogen Peroxide, test it and you'll see how quickly it will neutralize PP, it's INSTANT. If you put a little pp in a bucket, swish it around until all water is purple, put a cap of Hydrogen Peroxide in the bucket, instant clear. Get a couple of spray bottles and fill them with Hydrogen Peroxide, also have some hydrogen peroxide in a bottle to dump in the water. Do your PP, ALWAYS stay near the pond and keep a close eye on the fish. IF any fish looks to be in distress spray, and dump hydrogen peroxide in the water. It'll instantly neutralize it and save the fish. Have helpers on hand to help neutralize PP with Hydrogen Peroxide.

There is no need in using bleach for your plants if you’re going to dip them in PP. You can dip your plants in as strong a PP dip as you like, it'll not hurt them. I've never heard of anyone using PP to clear up algae? It will kill ALL bacteria (good and bad) in your pond. So be warned you'll have to recycle your pond if you do not take your bio filter out of circulation.

BTW Prazi is a safe way of clearing up parasites in fish, it's extremely expensive though.

A useful post on using PP has been pinned in Goldfish Tanks>Tanks & Equipment headed Best Way to Disinfect.
