While moving my goldfish to a new tank, I found this tiny snail, I named him Dior. He's really cute, but I'm not sure what type of snail he is. I think he came with the new plants I bought. I've been looking up apple snails but I don't think I can tell if he is one or not. Can someone offer input?
thanks!

That little guy would be a ramshorn snail. He is asexual, therefore that one little snail will create a whole bunch of snails shockingly quickly! Keep an eye out for globs of eggs, stuck to the glass or plants under water, and remove them as you see them. smile.gif That should keep the population under control for you, if you would like to keep little Dior. smile.gif

I think I might just move him to an empty tank. Thanks!

Hah thanks! I actually don't, it's just some generic Kodak 5mp thing I got a few weeks ago. It's so much easier to take a clear picture of a snail with bright lights on him than it is to take one of a fast moving fish.

So I put Dior back into the 10 gallon I found him in, it's maybe 1/3 filled with old tank water, gravel and a few stalks of anacharis. I'm a little freaked out by the potential for uncontrollable reproduction. I removed all of the new anacharis plants from my goldfish tank and tossed a few back in the tank with the snail. Now looking into that tank I found another snail climbing the wall. I'm keeping a very close eye on my fish tank in case I missed something, I really don't want lots of snails roaming in there.

It's a shame,Ramshorn's are cute little snails that look anywhere from kind of spotted ,to brown,to almost red looking. They don't get a really big size either, but one snail is just never one snail. If any are still in your Goldfish tank, chances are that the goldie's will find them and eat them.Keeping that one though will eventually have you swimming in snails. It may take a few months, but it will happen. You'll end up finding them everywhere, including the inside of the filter. They're very hard to eradicate once you let them start breeding. yikes.gif Thud.gif
