Hi,
Was just wondering if anyone had ever tried a Rena FilStar xP1 Canister Filter in your tank? (am thinking of buying one)
Thanks,
Marco

Just to add a bit more info I already have an Aquaclear 200 power filter on it, but the water still seems to need changing every 2 days, it's a 20 Gallon tank with two Pearl Scale goldfish, one is 3 inches long (not including tail) and the other one is 1.5 inches long.

I my self have never had that kind.

Two filters are always better than one biggrin.gif

Thats what I figured, especially since the water has needed changing more often after I added the second pearl scale, I plan on getting a bigger tank but not till March, so I wanted to add another filter to make sure they stay healthy till then. Really great forum by the way. I've gotten a lot of good tips just reading through the whole site which is why I wanted to join. Thanks.

Im glad you joined. Its a good place to learn things biggrin.gif

I personally like the Fluval and the Ehiem canisters they so far have been good for me. The eheims are alittle bit pricey and the fluvals are much cheeper in price, both do about the same thing for me. The one good thing I like about the Eheims is that they have Green tubing and this helps elimant the algae in the lines.....biggrin.gif

Thanks for the info, I actually wanted to get an Ehiem canister but don't really have the $$ at the moment for that filter (figured I'd save it for a future upgrade). I was looking at the Fluval also but was not sure about it since it didn't say anything about a self-priming filter, whereas the Filstar said that it was self priming(have you ever had a problem with priming the fluval?). So earlier today I bought the Filstar online at petsmart. I figured since no one else seems to have tried this filter I could let everyone know how it went.

That would be cool, one more filter experience this is great. My Fluval has a plunger like primer to it. you have to pump it up and down at the beginning of setting the filter up but after that its pretty much goes on its own biggrin.gif

Update on my new canister, I spoke with a friend of mine who mentioned that while the Filstar was good for tropicals, for goldfish she prefered fluval to have more media in the filter and since it's more proven. As I haven't really heard anything else about the Filstar model I prefer to go with something I've heard more good things about, so with my last order I bought a Fluval 204 to add to my tank instead. Oh and in case anyone was curious (I know I was) the filstar is a new entry into the canister filter market by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals.

My friend loves his xp2 filstar. It seems to work well on his tank and he likes the ease of use.

I personally haven't bought one since it is relatively new on the market. Plus no stores near me sell it. But since my friend has it - he'll be my guinea pig.

I have a Filstar XP3 and Aquaclear 200. Both were recently put in because there wasn't enough space behind the tank for the Aquaclear 500 I had (long story sad.gif). Anyway, the Filstar is much quieter than any other HOB filter I have had (it's my first canister, so I can't really compare there). But, I really like it's preformance so far, it also primes really easily. smile.gif
