Why is it that in a pond, you're suppose to get a pump that pumps the volume of the pond 2 times per hour, but in a TANK, your filtration is 10X per hour?

I don't know Erika....I have wondered that one myself (even though I don't have a pond

)....it will be interesting to see what's the answer!

It has a lot to do with the stocking levels, body of water, and number of plants compared to a tank.
Goldies in tanks are usually stocked 1 per 10 or 20 gallons. In a pond, it's a good rule of thumb to leave 50 gallons per goldie, and at LEAST 250 gallons per koi. Big difference there!
A pond is usually a much larger body of water than a tank. An 800-gallon pond is considered small.
Ponds have WAY more plants than tanks, and pond plants use a lot more waste than most aquarium plants.
Also, to turn over a 2000 gallon pond 10X per hour is just not feasible!

Yeah, that never made sense to me either. Ponds just are not as densely stocked as tanks.

Ideally in the pond I hope to have someday, I'd like about 100 gallons per goldfish.
