Frayed Fins
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I noticed recently that the tailfins on my fantail appear to be
little bit frayed . Is this normal? Or is it stress or what not?
He appears to be a bit more active today than he has been and I know the water is stablizing a little now that I added some "cycle" to the water yesterday.
any ideas??

Fishs' fins frey when there is high ammonia in the tank water. You need to get your tank properly cycled to get rid of the ammonia. To heal the grayed fins, get 'melafix'. This stuff works excellent when used as directed. It is an all-around anti-bacterial agent. It cures everything from fungus to fin rot. So, use this as directed and your fishs' fins will be healed fast Just make sure to get to the root of the problem first. Water quality is almost always the reason for frayed fins

Oh yeah...black spots or brown spots are usually a sign of healing ie: from an ammonia burn. Your fish may get a brownish/blackish mouth..the lips that is...it is a sign of healing.

Thanks Florissa
I have been getting the ammonia levels to drop a bit over the past few days. I think the fray is from last week when the ammonia levels were really high. I didn't notice it until I had changed the bulb in the light due to it being real low power.
thanks for all your help

Don't be sorry!! I actually am not sure exactly what a canuck is...I think it is just a term that people use to say that someone is Canadian I personally, just don't like it Canadian sounds better..It's like me calling an American a 'yank' ...excuse me for the term That's good that you're getting the ammonia down, just try not to use stuff like 'ammolock' because it is better to get to the root of the problem, right? Good luck and your welcome..ask away with the questions...when I first got my tanks, I had huge ammonia problems too
