Hi all!
I've been getting lots of good advice on this board, so thanks everyone!
I have another question though. I am considering permanently removing my betta from the tank because there is alot of current in the tank due to the power filter and the air stone, but the problem is I have 2 cats, and I do not have anywhere that I could put a 1-1.5 gallon bowl without a lid that my cats won't be able to reach. Do they make bowls with lids that have holes in them? I have searched far and wide on the internet and have been unable to find one. It seems to me like it wouldn't be such a strange request, but I am having no luck finding one. The nearby pet store doesn't have bowls with lids either. Any ideas?
Thanks!

i have never seen any bowls with lids, but you could always make a lid yourself. perhaps out of netting or something? there would be holes in it, for air, but would cover the top so your cats couldnt get to the fish.

thats a good idea katmad!

maybe get a betta bowl like this which you can get cheap and has a light above it! you could quite easilly put some material over the top as a lid and the light might help to stop the cat/dog from getting in it.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002Z7V9...0056749-4789513 this product also comes with some bio blend food and some water condition! you can get these for around $6-$7 in some places! hope that helps a bit!

Why not an aquarium tote/ kritter keeper? They have them up to 5 gallons, and they come with a lid. My own has a 3 gallon tote

Maybe that is why they are only 1.97 at wolly world becuase that is the only place i have seen them!

Personally I will not keep a betta in anything less than one gallon. I have Horatio one of these right now, but in a few weeks he will be in his own 5 1/2 gallon tank. I like the MiniBow Junior because you get a lighted hood and it has good ventilation. If you keep the water level low like you are supposed to, it keeps the air at the top of warm from the lights, which bettas need.

I use an aquatic gardens 1 gallon betta kit (petco brand) and it works pretty good. The only thing I don't like is the undergravel filter so I got a sponge filter instead. It comes with a lid, light, gravel, plant decoration and an airpump and tubing.

I was just about to do a new post as my daughter got a betta last night and I need advice on care, then I saw this thread and thought Id give you a quick fix to your problem..........I got a stocking. One of the ones that is theigh high,
place the open end with the elastic over the bowl,,,the top bit that goes over your theigh not the toe end, stretch it into centre of bowl then cut in centre and tie a knot so its neat. Turn inside out and place back, the elastic top will hold it on the bowl and the knot is now underneath so this will give a clean neat looking cover which can allow air in. My daughter did not get a bowl but she got a round large vase so its 5 and half Gallon but the top is round so this is all I could hink of to cover it. She has black stones in the bottom so I used a black stocking, it matches the decor LOL

Here is what it looks like to help demonstrate my explanation:
NOTE: there is a rubber band around it for now for added security as I just added a heater so I was woried the stocking would slip over the cord, if you do not have electrical cords this is not needed, I will change the rubber band to a black one so its not visable as soon as I get one.

Hope that helps

If the cat tries to step on it, won't it rip? That's a good idea though. It looks pretty nice and neat.

I have my betta in this tank (see link below), minus the spongebob decor (lol), it has a great lid but it is kind of pricey because of the namebrand-ness of it. I have seen them at the major pet stores as well as smaller ones. I took the ugf out of it and don't use the air pump. If you want to use an hob filter though the lid is tough to get around...kritter keepers are great too though and you can cut holes in the lid for a filter if you need it.
