Full Version: Cleaning Plastic Plants
Forum > The Goldfish Topics > Goldfish Tanks > Goldfish plants, & how to set up a planted tank

Two of my plastic plants in my tank at school have fine, almost fuzzy detail on them. My chocolate platy won't eat the algae from it. It was getting pretty nasty and rinsing didn't seem to be helping much. I took them home and cleaned them with bleach. They looked so great, but after almost 2 full days of rinsing and rinsing, they still smelled like bleach.

Then - a brainstorm - bleach is clorine, right? So I put the plants in fresh water - again - and added AquaSafe. I let the plants soak for about a half hour and viola! No bleach smell!!

I let the plants soak until the next day and put them in the tank. So far the fish are fine.

Did I do good?????

You did good... Dechlorinates are the standard treatment to neutralize bleach residue.
