laugh.gif I just went upstairs to check something and my Bronze cories have been at it while I've been online!!
soo... ok What do i do!!??
How do i remove them from the tank without damaging them?
I cant believe they've done this, I was just thinking "hmmm, i might try breeding the corries".. but they got there first! rolleyes.gif
sandy
What else is in the tank?
Do you have another tropical set up to put them in?
x-Lucy-Fish-x
I can create one biggrin.gif There will be no hope for them where they are as theres millions of MTS in there. I keep going up to flick them away! I have moved the oto to another tank so he doesnt munch on them. Then theres just the cories and an ADF. I can move the frog too.. but id prefer to move the eggs as i dont want them sucked up in the current when they hatch. Its a shame they didnt lay them on something i can take out the tank.
I can set up a 4 or a 2 gallon with a sponge filter and media from somewhere else, so thats no problem.. I just need to get them into it somehow

Edit: wierd smiley went wrong.. blink.gif

Second edit: mum just came home and told me that they do it in batches, so they may not have finished yet.. so should i wait it out a bit?
sandy
You need to set up another tank quickly as the parents can eat the eggs as well. Your mums right that they lay in spurts but realistically you wont get many to survive. Take some out to try and hatch and leave the rest to nature and you may get a few to raise in the small tank.
x-Lucy-Fish-x
okie dokie.. thanks smile.gif
I just found another load on the heater rolleyes.gif I think i figured why they bred, 'cause i had to turn the heater off in their tank for a few days as i have limited plug sockets and needed it for a hospital tank! They must think its the rainy season biggrin.gif
tinkerbell
congrats on the eggs lucy biggrin.gif
x-Lucy-Fish-x
Thanks Alice smile.gif
The eggs are all safely in their own tank now, any more that that get layed I'll leave in the main tank, I dont have room for more!
I can see little fishy foetuses growing laugh.gif

biggrin.gif Congrats on finding the Cory eggs.Hopefully some of them hatch for you.Right now,I've had three different types of cories lay eggs.I didn't even try to save them all and still ended up with about 50 babies. yikes.gif laugh.gif Cories are some of my favorites. exactly.gif
x-Lucy-Fish-x
Thanks Devs smile.gif
I have over 100 fertilised eggs at the moment ohmy.gif They really went at it! I could see the fry buzzing around inside their eggs last night, I can imagine the feeling i got was close to when you feel a baby kick for the first time heartpump.gif They are developing so fast, i think they should hatch in the next 12-24 hours.. I will have pics up when i get time, very busy week!
Devs
laugh.gif You'll be starting a new thread,"What am I going to do with them all?" rofl3.gif
For some reason, all my eggs hatch quicker than the time they give, and it's not always about my tank temps either.Sounds as if you're just about ready there. "The excitement Builds"...
x-Lucy-Fish-x
rofl3.gif
Yea, I've done a bit of reading, and most things say about 5 days, its been about 48 hours now and theres no way its going to take 3 more days! The temp is about 26c so quite warm, that might have something to do with it.
x-Lucy-Fish-x
blink.gif I just had a proper count of the eggs.. and theres around 170..
Ponderosa Power
Ooo congrats on the cory eggs! 170's a lot x_X
x-Lucy-Fish-x
About half of them hatched this morning, they look like little tadpoles heartpump.gif

Devs
biggrin.gif Good job Lucy.WHat will you be feeding them for their first meal? Do you have enough space for all those little cuties? laugh.gif
x-Lucy-Fish-x
I have fry food for egg layers on hand, but nothing live as there wasnt much time.. i dont really have MUCH room, i'll have to make some room, buy a few more tubs and do some serious culling unsure.gif
Devs
biggrin.gif Hopefully, you have a little "Mom and Pop" store that will be willing to take them and give you some sort of credit.Tha would be the route the route that I'm going to try. laugh.gif
x-Lucy-Fish-x
Yea theres a place down town, we've known them for about 18 years, im sure they'd be happy to take them smile.gif
How do i know when they are free swimming? as they are acting as cories would anyway and im not sure unsure.gif Is the big 'tadpole head' bit mostly yolk sac so that will be gone?

Edit: acutally that shop took my mums cory fry when she bred her albinos! laugh.gif
glitterfish

Ive moved them to a 5 gal tub for now.. but its worrying me, its quite thin plastic.. and it bows out, what are the chances of it splitting and getting water everywhere!? unsure.gif
Devs
biggrin.gif The pic's are great! I never have a chance to do that-It all happens so fast around here. laugh.gif Hey,my Bronze Cories are laying eggs as we speak!
yikes.gif
What's this tub look like? Can you secure it with Bunjee Straps(What we call them around here rolleyes.gif ) or some sort of belt around it?
x-Lucy-Fish-x
yikes.gif yours just never stop do they!
The thingy is this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/35ltr-Crystal-plasti...1QQcmdZViewItem
Its clear plastic, its quite sturdy and hard at each end, but the big sides (front and back) stick out and feel less hard :S done think i have any bunjee strap things.. could try a belt, if i have one big enough laugh.gif I'm probably worrying over nothing, as usual.. i get very paranoid about leaks etc.
Devs
laugh.gif That's what we call "Rubbermaid Bins/Tubs" around here.Heaven sent for alot of us. rolleyes.gif laugh.gif If it's made anything like ours,it should be okay-it's only 5 gal,and because they are fry,you can even lower it a couple inches(the water that is) if you think that will be safer. smile.gif
x-Lucy-Fish-x
..well finaly.. (i'll do it link/pic/link/pic as theres so many)

erruughh I've had a parasite issue in one of my tanks (came in on some mossballs) and its made its way to the fry (or should i say juvies now!) I'm treating the first tank (with the parents in) with sterazin, will the babies be able to handle it at half dose?
They've been flicking for a few days and I put treatment off as they are still small, but this morning they are shimmying all over the place so I need to do something about it.
The treatment is treating whatever parasite i've got ok as I haven't seen flicking in the parents tank for a couple of days now.

I'll get some pictures of the cuties up later biggrin.gif
Devs
sad.gif What a pain to go through!!! What are your tank params Lucy on the Juvi tank?
x-Lucy-Fish-x
Ammonia 0-0.25 (its yellow, but the tiiinnnyest green tinge)
nitrite 0
nitrate 10
pH 8

They are due a water change today so i'll do a big one as the treatment lasts for 10 days (dont think i supposed to do a one during it am i?).
The filter media needs swishing as i forgot last time, its probably why theres ammonia, it gets clogged sooo fast.

Edit: http://www.waterlife.co.uk/waterlife/sterazin.htm
x-Lucy-Fish-x
I treated them last night on half dose after their big w/c and they are looking better already, they have stopped floating around like hovercraft laugh.gif

laugh.gif thats great news Luc heartpump.gif

Hi Lucy, how are your babies doing?

I just had a couple of batches of bronze cory eggs laid today. How did you remove them from the glass etc without damaging them? I'd like to transfer them to another tank like you did if I can, but I don't want to hurt the eggs in the process!
