Thank you....yeah lacy looks bad. And it just comes on so fast...when I got off work you remember I told you I thought they looked better? Well...between then and now they just got sooo much worse. This moves so fast. I wish someone knew for sure what this was exactly. Whatever it is, it is EXTREMLY contagious.

I bought two pearlscales recently and I had them in that same tub for one day. When I saw signs of sickness from the other two, I separated them immediatly. I have them in two separate gallon sized kitchen containers. It was all I had and the fish are only about an inch so I was hoping it would be ok. I mean I had no choice.

Today I noticed they are showing signs of fin deterioration. I think I will just take them back to the store and put them in the sick tank and try to treat them at work. I just cant do this anymore.

I didnt want to talk about the pearlscales at first because I felt so overwhelmed with the other two. Im not going to try to save the pearlies here at home. I dont think there is hope, really. I will try to treat them at work and if they die then at least I know I tried and there was nothing more I could do. There is medicated food and topical treatments at work that I can use for them. As far as the medicated food for the oranda...I know he wont eat. I put some normal food in there about an hour ago and it hasnt been touched. I mean when your dieing I guess you kind of loose your appetite.

sad.gif Gia,I'm really sorry that you're going through all of this-even sorrier for Lacy and the other fish,
One thing I noticed is that you have no filter on this tub.Have you at least placed an airstone in there for some aeration?
When Lacy started out with cloudy eye, that was either caused by Trauma to the eye,or poor water quality whether it was ammonia, toxins, etc,or Parasites from the first get go.The peeling milky skin could have been the water quality which makes sense with cloudy eye,but it also could have been parasites too. Fish are/can be carrier s of ick at all times. As mentioned, sometimes it doesn't come out unless stress/water quality,or other illness makes it an open door for the Ick to rear it's ugly face..
If I recall right,I remember you having alot of water problems with high Nitrates and such. That could have been the beginning of all Lacy's problems. Often, secondary infections do pop up.
I know it's late in the game, but I'd continue with the 0.3% salt solution to combat the Parasites. If you have a heater,I'd definately use it.(I had one in a Rubbermaid for two years without any problems at all.) I'd raise the heat up slowly to around 80 degrees or so,and I think I'd start a round of both the Maracyn's asap. These fish have been treated with a few meds allreadyand it's probably not helped them doing that, but I'd take one last stab at it and do the Antibiotic's for sure as they definately have symptoms of Bacterial Infection. It definately does not look good, but you can't give up yet.I've seen fish worse off than yours make it so I know it's still possible.Water must be tested daily and be kept pristene. I hope the little guys make it. heartpump.gif

Thank you so much, Devs. Well Ive been here on Kokos for HOURS today and honestly Im exhausted. There is nothing more I can do tonight. I will have to wait until I go to work tomorrow and get those meds.

Devs and yes I have an airstone in there. I actually cant fill the tub enough to put a filter on it because the sides start bowing if I fill it to the top. It is about half full which is about 20 gallons. The intake to the filter cant reach that far and besides I was worried about contaminating my filter.

I have been changing the water almost daily but I think I will try to do twice daily now just to make sure the water is staying pristine.

But like I said, Im exhauted. Im going to bed and I hope I still have fish to treat in the morning.

Jen, a zillion thanks, honestly I cant say it enough....Devs thanks for your encouragment and advice.

'night and we'll see how it goes tomorrow.

If Lacy is not dead by the time I get home from work then I am going to put her out of her misery. She will not recover, this I can tell.

I think I will put her in the freezer. I dont have any oil of cloves and honestly I dont know where to find any right now and its Sunday and lots of places will be closed when I get off work.

Im going to take the oranda and pearlscales back to the store and treat them in the sick tank. It is now clean and sparkling. I scrubbed that thing, took out the gravel, but fresh water and meds in there and the fish in there are actually getting better!

I will have more of a wide variety of meds to treat them with at work plus access to medicated food. I just cant afford to buy any more medications so at least with the food at work I can give it a shot with the oranda. The pearlscales look like they are starting to go down the same road as Lacy.

So now I have learned my lesson, no matter HOW SMALL the problem may seem, do NOT treat two fish together from separate tanks. I will never in my life do this again.

Gia I am sorry to hear that all this happened. But please try and remember that we are not here all the time.
I know how scary it is to have fish really taking a turn for the worse, but we do the best we can.

How are they doing now?
gia_ekdahl
Hi Laurie. Oh I totally understand about people not being here, or people not knowing how to help. Im not upsett about that at all and believe me, I totally understand.

The oranda died a few hours after bringing him back to work. He was in bad shape, his eyes were bulged even more, and he was just limp on the bottom. He would not...or could not eat. After he died I put him in the freezer at work just to make sure he was gone.

Out of the two pearlscales I brought back, one died shortly after the oranda.

When I arrived home today, Lacy had passed also.

I must have cried 6 or 7 times at work this morning. Between giving up my rats, 3 of my fish dying, Chris not being here for over a week and working two jobs I just felt so overwhelmed. I am feeling a little better now this evening.

I stoped by the store and got some banana split sundae ice cream and a huge smirnoff . LOL someone at the store asked me if I was gonna make a float. LOL Im not THAT upsett! I think Im just going to veg in front of the tv tonight and try to relax.

Thanks so much for your help guys, I honestly believe we did all we could but I would still like to find out what in the world caused this to happen. I mean I have never seen a bacterial infection take over fish like this. It was just horrid. I was surprised to see that the meds did NOTHING to stop this from taking over.

Well, RIP Lacy my girl, my oranda Sweetface ( I tried baby) and my new pearlie, Im so sorry. I made such a huge mistake and it costed 3 lives for me to learn my lesson.
LaurieP
Oh Gia I am sorry that they all died. You have had a rough day huh? Some of these lessons are very hard indeed, I have had a few myself. I do hope your night gets better.
I assume that we can move the thread back or is there one fish left to need this emer thread?
gia_ekdahl
No this thread is done I guess. I have one more pearlscale but he is at the store now. I will continue treating him at work with fungus meds and antibacterial food...so I guess there is not much else to do...or be said.

Thanks Laurie
