Just want to tell you the ice has broke in our pond, finally it's warm enough. But I found about 10 - 15 dead frogs in there, different sizes. i know i should have removed them at once, I was lazy... today someone/something has been chewing on the dead frogs, the pond is disgusting... sad.gif I do know what I have to do this weekend, pond cleaning... to prevent bad bacterias...

I'm not going to post any pics...

The pond is almost round, 3 meter across and 1 meter deep, yes I felt sick when I looked at it...
OldHag
My only hope is that the crows or whatever it was, comes back and takes care of the leftovers themselves...

Ooh, not fun. We've found dead, uh, things in our pond before too. Just get a really long handled net. We use an old pool skimmer for ours, that way we dont have to get too close to anything! ill.gif

gross
but just think of it as spring cleaning and you only have to do it once (hopefully)

You could use a big dose of something like this.

It worked great when I rescued my small pond from a bad place.

i would just remove the frogs. i wouldn'tgo around adding chemicals for that. its not necessary.
OldHag
Thank you all. I have removed the #yuck# and 8 - 10 very dead frogs, the smell was the worst... we will clean the pond again before we add the fish, I was just afraid of diseases or bacteria from the dead bodies...
The pond looks boring without growing plants and the fountain, but here is a pic.

I didn't recommend chemicals. I recommended enzymes and beneficial bacteria - which the pond needs anyway to be a healthy balanced environment.

Once a pond becomes septic it takes a very long time for it to recover by itself. When it's out of balance with baddies you flood it with the good ones and it cleans itself up.

Then it should stay in balance for a long time unless you leave a carcass in it or something.
