I have a big comet all alone in a wide open tank. (My other tanks are all ridiculously planted, but this one's more of like... a living sculpture haha - plain black gravel, plain black background, and one huge bright goldfish.) I really don't want any plants or other fish swimming around, he'd dwarf them anyway and it'd look retarded. BUT, I have always wanted some kind of bottom-dwelling eely fish. Something thin, long, and dark that would blend in among the black gravel, and just slither around. Haha sorry I'm being rambly today.
Anyway, I like rope fish, and I hear that they're peaceful. Could I put one in that tank? Are there other snake-like fish that would work? Thanks.

I don't think that would work to well and ropefish grow rather large. Look into weather loaches, these are often kept with goldfish, are eel-like and only grow about 8" or so.

The rope fish need TONS of room. I had one in a 30 gallon and it got out and died.

Try a loach. Theyre eely and dont need as much room. And you can get 2 because they do better in pairs!

How much room qualifies as the TONS of room needed for a rope fish? The tank I have is a 40gal, which obviously isn't tons, but I didn't know if it was of any benefit that the tank only has one occupant. Either way, I'll look into those loaches. Thanks dewds.

Here is a site I found. It says 40+ tank size but I dont know if Id keep them in anything other than a 50+, maybe more. Says they also like sandy substrate which isnt good for goldfish.
