Hey guys!

I know I haven't been on in a while (schoolwork and all that), but here I am. I may well have asked this question before, as I have the memory span of a potted plant, but what sort of shrimp are compatible with goldfish? I have algae all over my tank, and I have wanted a shrimp for quite a while anyway, so why not? I know ghost shrimp are good, but I think I may have trouble finding it in my big tank if they're as see-through as their name implies. Thanx for any replies! biggrin.gif

smile.gif Ghost shrimp may be good if your goldie's are pretty small.Ghost shrimp if I recall though only get around an inch or so big and could very well be eaten by a bigger Goldie. One shrimp to look into would be the Wood shrimp-also known as Singapore shrimp or bamboo shrimp. They grow to be about 3 inches in size. They do better though in warmer/big planted tanks.
Amano Shrimp may be another option. They grow to about 2 inches, prefer somewhat colder temps/some salt in their tank is also a benefit. The thing with these though is that they are not always the easiest to find. blink.gif

singapore shrimp Atyopsis moluccensis are filter-feeders, not algae eaters. Putting in one will amount to only having it there as a decorative prop. its not gonna get rid of the algae.
Why not try a bristlenose plec instead?

rolleyes.gif My bad....I was thinking size wise for Shrimp versus Goldie's,and forgot the reason of why you wanted the shrimp. rolleyes.gif
That's why sleep is a "good thing" sometimes. laugh.gif

Cherry shrimp are bright red and adore soft green algea. However, they stay pretty small and will most likely become eaten.

Thanx for all the ideas. smile.gif I think the White Spotted Pearl Shrimp seems like it would work quite nicely. I've also always been interested in lobsters and crayfish, but I think those may be a bit aggressive when it comes to fish, especially slow-moving fancies. Anyone know anything about that? blink.gif

crayfish are a definite no-no for a goldfish tank. trust me.
