i am movingat the end of the month and was wondering about the blow up ponds. I have seen them with the see through sides and even some have waterfalls.
i am finally getting a back yard and was thinking of putting one outside.
how do i handle the stray cats tho..... there are a lot

I haven't seen blow up ones bigger than like 10 gallons (and in the catalog they had 3 little koi swimming around in it... grr). That would be a neat idea, but for a good sized one, you'd be huffing and puffing for a good while! smile.gif

As for the cats, maybe some chicken wire over the top. Or a small fence around the perimeter of the pond so that a cat would have to jump over it (and into the water) to have any chance at the fish. Maybe other people that actually have ponds have better ideas?

I think they are super cute myself also. smile.gif I see them in catalog's a lot and for a pretty good price too!

I am alway's thinking it would be cool to have one in our backyard also with maybe one lil GF in there or something?-But then I wonder what happen's when it rain's a lot in the summer months, It would overflow woulden't it?

We have a pretty good sized air compressor in the garage that hubby uses for car work so I think blowing up a good sized one would be pretty fast. Otherwise smaller compressor's are pretty cheap at Wally World.

I'm not sure how to keep the cat's out of it though, I think Justin's idea of the chicken wire sounds pretty novel though. exactly.gif

Let us know if you get one, I'd be intrested to know how it go's.

If this is what you are talking about, it is a bad idea. sad.gif cry3.gif blink.gif Why? Because it is made from like a pvc type cheap plastic and is easy to puncture. I would never feel safe putting a fish in this!!!! I seen this in the catalog that I got in the mail from this company!!!!

well at least i know now and not when i am haveing a funeral for the lost goldies.... crap it is sooo cute any other suggestions.
there is a member on here that has a barrel type tub

Uhm Actually that is the one I have been thinking about getting. wink.gif PVC piping isn't cheap and un-durable either. PVC is a harder plastic, I can't for see it being very easy to break. Iv'e used it with many other thing's including tunnels for small pets and even they coulden't chew through it. I don't think they would use PVC piping in houses if it was "cheap".

I personally think if it's in a safe place then it should be fine as it is. They sell this general type of blow up pond just about everywhere. If you don't feel safe putting a fish in though, Well you could probably swing putting some plants or snails in it also. smile.gif

SarahElizabeth-I know Riz (Dgolem) had a tub like pond that he keeps GF in outside, And I think it was Jess that maybe used to have a barrell like pond set-up. I'd check the LPS if you don't feel safe with using that one. It's the same one I was looking at also. My mom get's LTD and I spotted that and had her mark the spot.

smile.gif I bought my daughter a Pop-Up Pond last year on e-Bay.I think it was around 30 gals.,or so.Heather used it all summer to houise all her baby goldfish in it.It worked out rahter well for her. There are pros's and cons of course. You have to be very careful of where you set it up(Full sun will make it cook your fish) blink.gif And sometimes what comes with those ponds isn't strong enough for Goldie filtration etc. I think Heather added her own stuff,if I'm not mistaken.
