I'm not sure if this is a problem, but, I just brought home a small orange and white fantail from the pet store and noticed he has one eye that is like a big black circle (like an eclipse). Can anyone tell me what this is and should I be worried? blink.gif

Hi and welcome to Kokos. smile.gif

As long as your fishes eyes are the same size then everything is ok. Black eyes are not very common but some fish have 2 black eyes, some only have one.

Sometimes the black eye looks bigger but it is an illusion. This is because the eye socket is black whereas in most fish it is the same colour as their scales.

thanks for the quick response. yes, when you look at him closely it looks like the eyes are the same size. It just looks kinda strange.

Strange is good. smile.gif I like to see fish who have something a little different or individual about them. It may be a black eye like yours, or something odd about their fins or colour, it makes life interesting.

Absolutely! Thanks Fishmerised, I'm glad he's OK
